The neon makeup trend has been knocking around for a few seasons now, and it shows no sign of fading. And while the overarching rebellious nostalgia of 90's glitter shadows and vinyl lips are the becoming new norm, bold colour and glassy gloss is getting a futuristic overhaul.
Shimmering silvers, flashes of neon accessories and holographic highlighters are refining our palettes and these three fashion mavericks are shifting our obsession into second gear.

During her recent US tour, Japanese-born UK-raised pop and R&B artist Rina Sawayama was seen backstage awash with smudged neon liners and dappled silver body paint across her brow. Sawayama’s look defiantly challenges standardised beauty conventions, whether it in her performances or her off-duty style, and has been vocal on kawaii and animee culture in Japan and how it can objectify and infantilize young women, a rebellious complexity which she taps into whenever she performs.
