There’s no denying it, the year is happening. So when you need a break from the salt, sun and sand we’ve got jump-scares galore with Resident Evil 2, Disney doing battle in Kingdom Hearts III and even a Bad Hungry Monster to keep you entertained.

Here are all the games worth your sweet time this month.

PS4, Xbox One, PC

Resident Evil 2

For fans of the survival-horror genre (or people old enough to remember the 90s) Resident Evil will be a familiar title. This year’s Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the 1998 game by the same name, but this time it’s got good graphics — so when we say, “horror”, we mean ho-rror. We’re talking a zombie apocalypse in Racoon City and you’ve got just one task: get out of dodge. Warm up your trigger finger, and put on your running shoes, police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield return to your screens January 25th.

Genesis Alpha One

Have you ever thought, “What if Starship Troopers was a roguelike shooter game?”. Well, Radiation Blue sure did, and now they’re bringing you Genesis Alpha One. Build your own starship, clone your own crew, and kill the aliens before they kill you. It’s builder/shooter/survival all in one, what more could you want? Genesis Alpha One has liftoff on January 29th.

Kingdom Hearts III

In the most ambitious cross-over since Avengers: Infinity War, Kingdom Hearts III is bringing together Disney and Square Enix universes for the action-RPG of a lifetime. What does that mean? Welp, you can band together characters from movies like Tangled and The Lion King with folks from Final Fantasy to solve mini-puzzles and do battle with the Heartless. It’s the final chapter in the Sora, Donald and Goofy saga, but if you haven’t played the previous games, don’t worry, the story will catch you up. Kingdom Hearts III will be available on PS4 and Xbox One January 29th.

Lyrical Letters

What do you get when you cross a Casio with a quiz? Lyrical Letters, that’s what. It sounds a bit whack, but it’s actually a great (musical) brain teaser. The game plays you some notes and you need to play them back on the little piano keyboard to spell a word. Can’t figure it out? You’ll get a hint for the word, which ultimately hints at the notes. Some extra cuteness: you can record your songs and share them. Lyrical Letters is available on iOS.

Dot Shots

Shoot the dots, that’s the aim of the game. You can bounce off walls to hit your target, just don’t get caught by the ever-increasing lasers and barriers designed to challenge you. If you were good at geometry in school, or pool at the pub, this is the game for you. Dot Shots is available on iOS.
