Buttering up the popcorn and firing up Netflix has got to be our favourite thing ever. If you’re anything like us we know you don’t relish in spending hours scrolling for something half decent to kick back to.

Here are all the best movies to watch on Netflix right now.

Polar

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla (otherwise known as The Black Kaiser) is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced. Polar will drop on Netflix on January 25.

Close

Close, an adrenaline-pumping action thriller written and directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War), is inspired by the life of the world’s leading female bodyguard, Jacquie Davis. The film stars Noomi Rapace as Sam, a counter-terrorism expert used to war zones, who takes on the job of protecting Zoe (Sophie Nélisse), a young and rich heiress — a babysitting job for her. But a violent attempted kidnapping forces the two to go on the run. Now they’ve got to take some lives — or lose theirs. Close is streaming on Netflix now.

Harry Potter

Turns out, Netflix is the only place to be for your weird and wonderful witchcraft and wizardry antics. You can now stream all eight Harry Potter movies on Netflix which basically means you’ll be saying goodbye world and hello back-to-back Horcrux and butterbeer shenanigans for not just this weekend, but probably the rest of your life. And that doesn’t sound too shabby to us. These guys drop on Netflix January 17.

IO

Feeding your unquenchable thirst for the sci-fi genre and dystopian-themed movies is the Netflix Original IO. Sam (Margaret Qualley), one of the last survivors on a post-cataclysmic Earth, is a young scientist dedicated to finding a way for humans to adapt and survive, rather than abandon their world. But with the final shuttle scheduled to leave the planet for a distant colony, her determination to stay is rocked by the arrival of another survivor, Micah (Anthony Mackie). This one drops on Netflix January 18.

The Boy

It’s 2019 and who doesn’t love a good horror movie? The Boy, though not the newest movie on Netflix, has one particularly twisted and chilling ending so if plots like The Sinner and Maniac got you excited last year, this one should be on your watch-list this week. A nanny (Lauren Cohan) is hired by an elderly couple to look after their boy but she soon learns that her charge is actually a doll that the married pair treat like a human. Head here to watch it.

Gone Girl

This psychological thriller is still a goer in our books. In what started as a seemingly perfect situation, Nick’s (Ben Affleck) marriage is starting to crumble and the drama hits when he comes home one day to find that his wife has vanished. Head here to watch Gone Girl.
