Every year, beginner and established collectors alike descend on Australia’s longest-running artist-led organization in Woolloomooloo to bid on some of Australia’s best art.
This August, Firstdraft gallery's annual fundraising auction celebrates its tenth year—boasting 170 reasonably priced artworks from more than 80 established and emerging artists.
The star-studded cast features the likes of Venice biennale exhibitor Tracy Moffatt, the immortal Ken Done, Claudia Nicholson (whose installation you might remember from the façade of the MCA during Vivid this year) and Giselle Stanborough who is set to stage an immersive performance installation at Carriageworks next year.
As is tradition, Christie’s auctioneer Ronan Sulich will return to pack a room and bring the drama of a high-end auction without any of the astronomical prices. The evening is a great way to get your art collection into gear and support Firstdraft’s innovative artistic program.
Get in for a 6pm kick-off to put in your silent bids and take your seat at 7pm for the live auction. In between, enjoy tasty Southern Asian food from 2 Boys in Saris and beats from DJ Sovereign Trax throughout the evening.
And in a ten-year twist, Firstdraft is also selling $5 raffle tickets to win a mystery artwork. Be sure to browse the catalogue ahead of time to plan your attack, pick your favourites and get excited.
A few of our favourite artists have artwork up for grabs: Anna Pogossova, Bellem Lett, Chun Yin Rainbow Chan, Daniel Boyd and Eloise Kirk—to name just a few.
