There’s not much the classic cob loaf can’t fix. And though its humble beginnings are very much contested, its glorious existence goes down as one of the most delicious party-pleaser carb-filled creations of all time.
The cob loaf has recently been entering a renaissance of sorts and cob enthusiasts are growing by the day (side note: a small town near Dubbo holds an annual cob festival). And good news Sydney, there’s now a monthly feast dedicated to cob feasting so you don’t have to wait all year around for nan to whip the spinach and cheese bread bowl out at Christmas lunch. Enter Young Mug Cafe.
Located in south-west Sydney, by day, this joint churns out epic cafe staples including breaky burgers, eggs benedict and avocado on toast. And once a month (by night), Young Mug Cafe turns into the foodie haven of your dreams. The team here hosts an actual cob loaf dinner with a tonne of next level fillings worth getting excited for.
Previous nights have seen spaghetti-packed cobs, seafood chowder, nacho-filled cobs with sour cream and even a drool-worthy shepherd's pie loaf piled with tender meat, creamy mash and lashings of gravy. These feasts kick-off at the start of every month but the only way to find out what the next cob loaf combo is made up of, is to keep track of Young Mug’s socials.
You’ll also want to make sure you book as soon as possible because (unsurprisingly) these cob loaf nights sell out. December sold out in a flash, so make sure you stay tuned for January!
Gelato beer is also a thing. Check it out here.
