Market hopping is the ultimate summer weekend activity. And if there’s ever been a time to get into market-hopping it’s this month with boozy farmers markets on offer, a seafood marathon and a cherry pickling workshop.

Here are the best markets to check out this December.

Glebe Market

The Glebe Market is some of Sydney’s best weekly markets, taking place every Saturday and becoming a bit of a local hotspot. This year, vendors are going all out for Christmas with even more stalls showcasing the best vintage and second-hand clothing stalls and delicious street food boasting a bunch of various cuisines as well as live music to brighten up the atmosphere. 

When: Every Saturday, 10am – 4pm Where: Glebe Public School, Glebe

The Rocks Christmas Market

This month head down to one of Sydney's most historical shopping locations for an unforgettable time at The Rocks Christmas Markets. Get lost in the vast array of stalls where you will discover magically mouth-watering morsels, festive flavours and crafty creations. The atmosphere will be electric with the sights, scents and sounds of street food being served. You can expect local produce cooked to perfection, and sweet treats being thoughtfully prepared by stall owners to help you get in the Christmas spirit.

When: Thursday 5 until Sunday 22 December, 10am – 8pm Where: The Rocks, CBD 

Craft Drinks Market

Australia’s first boozy farmer’s market is hitting our shores this December and the lineup features the most exciting craft brewers. You'll be treated to a day full of sampling the featured brewers produce, which means everything from beer and ciders to spirits and wine. The detail that goes into craft breweries will amaze you as talks on everything to do with alcohol will be held throughout the day designed to help you with a bunch of home DIY boozy projects.

Chippendale’s Ethical Christmas Market

After the success of their market earlier this year, the cafe Something With Jess is back to host its rendition of a Christmas market. This one is not only about the Christmas spirit but also sustainability and you can expect to see 17 local businesses opening stalls that feature works from local creatives presenting their art, jewellery, fashion, music and design products, not to mention the delicious vegan-friendly food and drink options available for everyone. 

When: Sunday 9 December 11am – 3pm Where: Something With Jess, Chippendale

Summer Design Fair

If you haven’t heard of Precinct 75 yet – it’s basically an insane haven for foodies and mammoth design enthusiasts. Around the grounds you’ll find a heap of independent, handcrafted designer brands including jewellery, body products, treats and ceramics. To fuel your body on the day, make sure you also get around the food trucks which will see feeds from The Bread and Butter Project, Dumplings Time and Mr Bao Buns. To make things even better, she’s also dog-friendly.

When: Saturday 14 December, 9am – 4pm Where: Precinct 75, St Peters

The Makers Nest Design Market

The Makers Nest Design Market is only held twice a year, so you definitely do not want to miss out on this one. Celebrating local artists who design contemporary and creative products, you’ll be able to find the perfect Christmas present for anyone as it’s packed to the rafters with fashion, jewellery to ceramics, textiles and illustrative artworks all created by Australian artists. 

When: Sunday 15 December 10am – 4pm Where: Tramsheds, Forest Lodge

The Carriageworks Christmas Farmers Market

Your favourite Christmas farmers market is back and this year it’s stacking it up with even more epic food, drinks and gift choices. It's set to be loaded with fresh food, produce, artisanal gifts and cherry pickling workshops to help you get in the festive spirit. With the some of the most delicious feeds being served to the perfect gifts for Christmas gifts as well as must-do cherry pickling workshops, this Christmas farmers market has it all and you don't want to miss it.

When: Saturday 21 December, 8am – 2pm Where: Carriageworks, Eveleigh

36-Hour Seafood Marathon

This annual event is set to return this month and just in time for all those last-minute Christmas meals. Retailers at the Fish Market will stay open for 36 hours, kick its doors open at 5am on December 23 and staying open until Christmas Eve. You’ll be the middle of Sydney’s freshest seafood, premium eats, gourmet fruit and veg and deli produce as well as last-minute kitchenware gifts. 

When: Monday 23 December (opening at 5am) untill Tuesday 24 December (closing at 5pm) Where: Sydney Fish Markets, Pyrmont
