Western Sydney’s notoriously sweltering summers are about to get a whole lot cooler, because the City of Parramatta Council has just given the final green light to a new stunning aquatic and leisure centre right in the heart of the mini city.
Backed by the NSW Government and Parramatta Park Trust, the epic $77 million dollar space will sit within Parramatta Park’s scenic garden surrounds, backing onto Park Parade and the nearby train line.
With its ultra-sleek, circular design, complete with sun-soaked pool lawn and state-of-the-art facilities, it’s sure to become your new favourite spot to take a casual dip or get your regular strokes in. Plus, the centre is expected to boost the economy and help create a ton of local jobs, and that’s definitely something to get excited about.
“What the team has designed is more than a swimming centre,” says City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Councillor Bob Dwyer. “It’s a multifunctional recreational hub where the community can meet, swim, play, exercise, and dine, right in the heart of global Sydney.”
Budding Thorpies can practice their cannonball in the 50m, 10-lane heated outdoor pool or the 25m indoor recreational pool, while littlies and big kids alike can enjoy the indoor Learn to Swim pool and splash play area.
Swimming not your thing? No worries. The centre will feature a modern gym and fitness program rooms so you can get your sweat on, plus spa and sauna facilities for ultimate relaxation sessions. Schedule that conference or weekly work meeting in one of many multipurpose community rooms, or keep things chill with a catch-up in the on-site café.
The much-anticipated project is set to begin construction in 2021, with completion slated for mid-2023. More info on the pool is here.
