Sydney is no stranger to a rainbow footpath. In 2013, the City of Sydney installed a rainbow crossing at Taylor Square to coincide with Mardi Gras and, in 2019, the colourful crossing was reinstated permanently just down the road from the original.
Last year, a new proposal revealed plans for a 90-metre rainbow path taking at Prince Alfred Park. Now, Sydney is getting its first beachfront rainbow footpath and we couldn’t be more ready for it.
The initiative, which was unanimously supported by Randwick Council, will stretch over 50-metres and will follow the existing shape of the beach’s brick promenade leading down towards the sand. It’ll also expand out to about 4.2 metres wide. At the moment, the council is still deciding on a number of installation options including temporary pavement paint or non-slip vinyl.
As for when you can expect to see the rainbow footpath at Coogee Beach pop-up, it’s due to take formation this February so keep your eyes peeled.
And since you're in the area, why not drop into this Euro-inspired wine bar, sporting over 400 bottles of wine.
