Some things sound too magical to be true, but Katoomba’s brand new night time waterfall walk is very much a reality you could be living this weekend.
Having just opened—the new Katoomba Falls Night-lit Walk is a new way to soak up Katoomba Falls, which sits in the Blue Mountains National Park within the incredible Gundungurra Country (the word “Katoomba” actually derives from a local word, “Kedumba”, which loosely translates to “shiny, falling waters”).
It goes without saying that Katoomba Falls is one of the most visited waterfalls in the Blue Mountains, skyrocketing to over 230 metres and descending deep into Jamison Valley. It’s famous for its “segmented” cascade, which makes it viewable from a number of lookouts and national park walks around the area.
As for the new night-lit walk, the trail stretches to a cruisy 1.3km and takes you through vantage points that give you the perfect scope of natural wonders like Orphan Rock, Witches Leap (a mossy watercourse straight out of a fairytale), Katoomba Falls, and the Katoomba Cascades.
The walk basically connects a series of trails with new walkway lighting so you can make your way around Reid’s Plateau and down to the Duke and Duchess lookout well after the sun goes down.
You can access this walk any time of the week with walkway lights turning on at dusk and turning off at 11pm.
