We Level Up With Dua Lipa And Her Brand New Adidas Collab

$

DJ and founder of HBFIT, Hannah Bronfman asks Dua Lipa about her new adidas collab—a capsule collection designed for really working out—as well as her go-to cardio tracks, her next album and the secret to those abs.

As a fashion lover and DJ myself, Dua Lipa is an inspiration to me and I wanted to find out where music and fashion meet in her life, how she got those killer abs and how she keeps on staying creative while touring the globe.

You're on the road so much, how do you stay fit?

I try and work out as much as I can. It’s such a busy lifestyle I feel like I need to try and do something for myself every day. I love doing something that’s really fast and quick, like a 15-minute HIIT session which I can do before I start my day. If I’ve got a really early call time I don’t want to be waking up hours before I need to, to go and do a workout. So a high-intensity workout, shower, breakfast, and I’m on my way.

When I have a tiny bit more time on my side I love mixing up lots of different training, finding different workouts in whatever city I’m in, whether it’s yoga, Pilates, boxing or spinning. Whatever it is, I try to change it up every day to keep things interesting. When you’re on a tour bus, every day and every place is different, so you never know what you’re going to find. That’s always one way to keep it interesting.

You have rules when it comes to dating. Do you have rules about your fitness/health or is it just what makes you feel good?

I try and stay as healthy as possible whenever I can. I’m never one to stop myself having naughty treats, but I try and limit it to days when I’m not as busy, because if I do eat a donut it usually puts me in a food coma!

I've read that one of your favourite workouts is boxing. What about boxing clicks for you as opposed to other workouts?

I like that it’s definitely a full body workout. Since starting boxing I’ve probably been in the best shape ever. It’s also a great stress reliever.

We often see you in crops, what are your favourite ab exercises?

I think different variations of crunches like bicycle crunches are good. Leg raises are also great unless my back hurts. Planks are good although almost certainly my least favourite!

What is your go-to cardio song and which of your own songs is the best to workout to?

Ape Shit by The Carters or Level Up by Ciara.

For my own song, Be The One.

You’ve been working and performing since you were quite young – was fitness always a part of your lifestyle or something you learned when you started your career? Did you play any sports as a child?

I used to play basketball when I was younger. I enjoyed it but used to be really short, so I would run around a lot but wouldn’t get thrown the ball! I also used to do gymnastics when I was in primary school but going to the gym was never really something I’d enjoy. It’s only just recently that I’ve fallen in love with it.

I would always be that person who made a new year’s resolution, get a gym membership and then show up twice in the first week of January and then never go again. Now I love workout classes or working with a trainer. I feel like I’m pretty useless on my own, so I prefer being around other people working out with me.

You’re such a style icon - from the stage to the gym, your outfits are always incredible. How did you develop your style? How do you switch up your workout style based on your mood or regime?

Depends what kind of work out and what the weather’s doing. If it’s early morning and I’m tired I always seem to reach for something more baggy and loose. If I’m doing Pilates or yoga I’d probably wear leggings and a work out bra top.

From writing your own songs, styling your own outfits and coming up with your own stage performances, what inspires you to create?

Personal experiences, to be able to write about those is therapeutic. I try to do things that scare me or that I think I couldn’t necessarily pull off. Different places that I visit inspire me. I like to wear different outfits based on where I am.

Looking back at some of your biggest breakthroughs, what has been the driving force that got you there?

I think just the love I have for my job. I feel very lucky to be doing something I’ve dreamed of my whole life. My hobby is my job, that’s not to say that there aren’t hard things about it, there’s crazy schedules and not really spending enough time at home for example. But I get to do everything I’d imagined and more, things I didn’t even know would be possible like performing at the UEFA Champions League, I never thought I’d see myself in front of loads of football fans. It’s really exciting seeing what new things this career brings me, I’m just so grateful.

It’s an excellent time to be a woman, who are some females that inspire you?

So many women inspire me. From pop artists like Pink, to amazing songwriters and artists like Alicia Keys, to Michelle Obama to the model Adwooa Aboah. Women that have paved the way for young women of all different backgrounds and shown them support and that they can do anything they put their mind to. They are women that really fight for women’s rights in so many different ways, whether it’s a political standpoint or a more personal empowerment.

What goals have you set yourself for the next year?

I’d like to finish my next album and start releasing new music. I’m really excited for starting a whole new chapter in my career. I think the next year is a lot about the next album.

Go-to piece from the Adidas Statement Collection: The All Me Warrior black sports bra with crosses on the back. It’s really supportive and flattering. Favourite pre/post workout snack: Banana and cashew butter. Mantra/ Motto/ Words to live by: You need to work really hard to get a little bit of luck. Style icon: Naomi Campbell in the 90s. Partner workout or solo fighter? Partner workout. Stretching or strengthening? Strengthening. Morning workout or evening training? Morning. Training with makeup or without? Without. City or Nature? City. After a workout I feel… Accomplished. Self-expression means... Having the confidence to be yourself. I use creativity to… Express myself.

We Found a Mouth-Watering Trail Of Sydney’s Most Delicious Summer Cocktails

$

0

When it comes to the world of alcoholic beverages, there’s no denying that cocktails are THE business.

Whether it’s pre-dinner, post lunch, mid-meal, or anything in between, nothing is quite as thrilling (or daunting) as that first glance at the cocktail menu. Analysing their quirky names, their intricate ingredients, and then if you’re like us, eventually just asking the bartender what they’d recommend because your life does not need that kind of pressure.

To help us on the hunt for the perfect summer cocktails, we’ve enlisted the help from our friends at Marriott whose mixologists have just created five seriously delicious cocktail in celebration of their recent partnership with the world renowned Dîner en Blanc.

For The Gin Lover

Hands up if you love gin *our hands are up*.

We didn’t quite think it was possible to love this heavenly spirit any more than we already do, but the Conservatory Bar at Marriott's Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is graciously proving us wrong with the “Lillet Cocktail”.

Complete with wine based aperitif Lillet, gin, egg white, lemon and orgeat syrup (think sweet almond syrup with rosewater and orange), this cocktail is as beautiful as it is delicious. Garnished with a white bloom, make sure to have your iPhone at the ready.

For The Martini Meddler

We’ve always been envious of those who can order a martini and knock it back like an absolute boss.

However, our time has finally come with The Lobby Bar at Marriott's The Westin Sydney coming to the rescue, whipping up the “Pear & Elderflower Splash”.

This insanely delish creation has a French-inspired infusion of hand-crafted pear syrup, a hint of St. Germain elderflower liqueur and a splash of vodka. Served into a chilled martini glass with a sugary sweet rim, you’ll feel just like you’re on the set of Sex and the City.

For The Fruity Fiend

If summer could be put into a liquid form, it would be a fruity cocktail. Whether it’s coconut pina coladas, mango daiquiris or strawberry mojitos, we are a complete sucker for these babies.

Further fueling our obsession is Three Bottle Man Bar at Marriott's Sydney Harbour Marriott at Circular Quay with their “Blizzard Condition”.

Complete with fresh lemon juice, egg white, Cointreau, gin and the most delicious ingredient, white peach puree, this zesty lady will tickle your taste buds from the very first sip.

For The Dessert Drinker

We’re big fans of the cocktails that have been inspired by desserts and we can tell you now, we’ll always be the first to order a drink with the words, “salted caramel” in the name.

The ever so stylish Malt Bar at Marriott's Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park is keeping our sugar addiction well and truly alive, shaking up their latest creation, Coco Blanc.

Making up this stunner is gin, Cointreau, coconut milk, homemade ginger sugar syrup and lemon juice. Excuse us while we close our eyes and envision ourselves swaying in a hammock underneath a palm tree with this one.

For The Lover Of Lemons

Lemons are like the salt of the drinks world, add it to just about anything and it will make it infinitely better. G&T? Add some lemon. Pimms? Add some lemon. Vodka soda? Add some lemon. You get the idea.

The guys at The Kerrigan at Marriott's Pier One Sydney Harbour (STET) understand the sacred nature of lemons and have thus created the seriously salacious “Lemon Drop”.

Gracing your coupe glass is vodka, limoncello, lemon juice and get this, a scoop of zesty fresh lime sorbet, just in case you hadn’t had enough citrus. We can think of no better partner in crime to take in the Sydney summer sunshine than this fresh as hell cocktail.

Many are yet to fully recover from season two of True Detective but basically, the trailer for season three is already here and it’s a glorious vortex of cinematic tension. Period.

The next season of our favourite anthology crime-drama will see super talented Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), as lead detective Wayne Hays from Arkansas. This season will revolve around the investigation of two missing children and dip in and out of three different periods of time.

It’s dark, unnerving and exactly what we’ve been waiting for. Sure, we've only seen two minutes of what's yet to come but to be honest, we're already hooked.

These Are The Best Male Grooming Salons In Australia

$

0

If you’ve been housed beneath a rock the past year, sacrificing home-lifestyle for that brunch, you may have missed the influx of men’s grooming salons popping up across the nation. Well, rock dwellers, do we have news for you. Male grooming is booming. And hypothetically, if you’ve reached the point where your mates are pondering if you’ve been on tour with a rock band for the last six months, keep reading.   Or maybe you’re just one dapper dude who digs a well-manicured face and bod, and gets all of Tom Ford’s references throwing claims at grooming being the modern gentlemen’s method of presenting the best version of themselves to the world, we’re not gonna get in the way of the cause. In fact, we’re so aligned with the cause that we’ve sifted the country to deliver you Australia’s best male grooming salons. This is the moment your overgrown hair follicles have been waiting for.

Twin Palms Barbershop

Twin Palms Barbershop

Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

You’ve gotta love a fresh batch of barbers doin’ it right, especially when they’re based upon James Street soil. A prime slice of men’s grooming real estate backed with a traditionally trained team throwing energy into shaves, trims, snips and treatments with the modern gent in mind. When you’re chasing the slickest skin fade in town, we’ll find you beneath the palms sippin’ on a tinnie from one of your favourite local breweries; we’re lookin’ at you, Green Beacon. And what's their must have product for perfect hair? EVO salty dog salt spray for those perfectly manicured locks is where it's at.

Young Turks Barber

Young Turks

Mosman Park, Perth

Want the low-down when taking care of the hair down thurrrr? Below the belt manscaping has always edged on the side of mystery, but with Young Turks in Perth, consider the mystery solved as they approach the task with a level of confidence, skill and care that makes a Full Monty bearable. Trust us, when that emergency Tinder date strikes, it’s Young Turks you’re gonna wanna have on speed dial. If you wanna know what their absolute must use product is, look no further than the The Groomed Man Co's Activated Charcoal and Bamboo Body Scrub. According to these guys it's, "So good, so scratchy, so black, so cool".

morris motley

Morris Motley

Collingwood, Melbourne

No stranger to a pair of scissors, rumour says the founder, Rob Mason, was styling hair prior to pencilling his first word. Okay, ignore the rumour (we may have made that up), but absolutely believe the hype that surrounds Melbourne men’s salon, Morris Motley. Prepped with 14 years’ experience, Rob not only owns one of the most luxe salons in town, but, drum roll please… in collaboration with a team of innovative chemists, he also formulates the exclusive line of products used onsite. One of their best sellers is the clay cleanser. It's the perfect product to prepare your hair for styling, not only removing toxins but also conditioning too.

usfin atelier

Usfin Atelier

St Peters, Sydney

Led by an award-winning stylist and backed by a globally plucked team of talent, Usfin Atelier is the place to go when the typical barber repertoire just doesn’t make the cut (literally). They’ve hit fast-forward on the aesthetics to a futuristic white monochrome design, and guys that’s just the interior, wait until they’ve given your hair a moment of their time. When your imagination flares beyond the pomp, quiff or fade, it’s Usfin Atelier’s bespoke styling you’ll wanna have on standby. One of their favourite products is the HYDRATE-ME.MASQUE delivering hydration and moisture to dry hair, or hair that’s been exposed to harsh, dry climates. We're sold.

Evolution Barbershop

Newstead, Brisbane

When it comes to grooming, there ain’t nothing wrong with a man wanting to take care of another man, and once you’ve stepped foot inside Evolution Barbershop of Newstead, you’ll know exactly how that feels. With a loyal following feat. some of Brisbane’s finest, the Evolution boys nail the craft of making gents look good in a manner of old-school decadence. Young to old, hipster to corporate, it doesn’t matter where on the spectrum you sit, the $60 cut and works maintenance will be one of your best regular investments. If you're wanting to keep your locks held tightly, they love American Crew Fiber. It also helps to thicken, texturize and increase fullness to hair while providing a matte finish. End scene.

his lid

His Lid

Subiaco, Perth

Never, and we mean, ever, underestimate the power of a good haircut, for we all know the multitude of wrongdoings a freshly groomed man can heal. Forgot to take the rubbish out? No problem. Simply rock up on the doorstep with a brand-spanking new do, and just like that, harmony will once again be restored. We know what you’re thinking; where are you gonna get this groom sesh of a lifetime? Well, Perth-side barbershop, His Lid, is a neat place to start. Busting out haircuts, clipper shaves, blade shaves, beard sculpts, camouflages and well, you name it, these guys will have you back into your partner’s good books in a flash. What do they recommend for your skin? The Groomed Man Co miracle product the Face Fuel cleanser. This beauty uses activated charcoal to deeply cleanse the skin while green tea and marshmallow root extract target inflammation and prevent the skin drying out. We're so keen.

SpaQ

CBD, Sydney

If karma’s thrown you a lucky ball in the shape of a QT hotel stay, we’re counting on you to vouch for the level of cool of which its reputation is staked. Delving into the art of unwinding, the luxed-out décor of SpaQ invites men to an indulgent menu of facials, massages, and body wraps, but we’re gonna draw your attention to our pick of the bunch, The Godfather. Whoa-ho-ho, this Skeyndor skincare facial designed to hydrate, energise and balance masculine skin will have you nailing every facial interaction post-treatment (read: hello lay-deez). They highly recommend their clients use Skeyndor's Redness Preventing After Shave Balm. This miracle product is ultra-refreshing and reduces irritation after shaving. Ahh, SpaQ, kudos for making Aussie men’s skin great again.

kings domain

King’s Domain

South Yarra, Melbourne

We’re all for equality, but there’s no denying when it comes to taming the mane, our female friends are claiming more of the industry than is truly fair. Sure, an equality riot beckoning ‘more salons than 7/11 stores’ wouldn’t go astray, but since King’s Domain burst into the scene with their six-store strong empire scattered throughout Melbs, we’re pretty sure the playing field has been levelled. Providing gents with the royal treatment in hair styling, cutting, shaving and trimming, do yourselves a favour and make your next date with a King’s Domain throne. Until then they recommend their clients use Morris Motley Treatment Styling Balm. It's the ideal matte styling product and it's even vegan too.

The Barbershop

CBD, Sydney

When a gin-centric speakeasy merges with a barbershop, we wouldn’t blame you for questioning your acceptance into Heaven, but folks, get your feet back on the ground because this kinda Heaven exists IRL. Located within the York Street nook of Sydney’s CBD, it’s a sophisticated bar by night, and by day it’s a parlour-styled barber hinting at a time gone by. Full gin and groom menus on offer, and if you want our word of advice (believe us, you do); the time-honoured straight blade hot towel shave infused with essential oils is the #1 treatment to beat. And what's their go-to product? Enright’s Original Gin Shave Oil, that's what. It's cooling, calming and contains gin. What more could you possibly need?

the men's grooming room

The Men’s Grooming Room

Paddington, Sydney

How would you love to perch your butt upon a classic 1950s American barber chair within the ultimate man-cave of a salon in one Sydney’s coolest ‘burbs? Ah, guys, your attention, please, because this situation is SO REAL when you check yo’self into The Men’s Grooming Room of Paddington where they’re filling the slot for fellas seeking a no-fuss cut, shave, trim, or tidy-up inside a space that effortlessly blends modern perks with nostalgic charm. You need to jump at this opportunity. It's everything that's right in the grooming world right now. And if you're wanting to keep your moustache on point, they love Truefitt & Hill's Gentlemens Moustache Wax.  It not only softens but also conditions the whiskers.

zeppelin barbers

Zeppelin Barbers

Miami, Gold Coast

Jase Alpen knows his way around a barber shop, having snipped and shaved his way across the Gold Coast. For those dedicated clients wondering where he’d snuck off to, in 2015 Jase opened Zeppelin Barbers, a two-seat man cave within Miami salon cum gallery, The Front Yard. Expect friendly banter, slick cuts, and rock ‘n’ roll theming and tunes. By appointment only.

Want more? We tried the GoT manzyme facial. Check it out here. It's a cross between Freddie Kruger, an avocado’s shell and a relief map of the Andes.

Practice Your Swayze Lifts, An Immersive Theatre Version Of Dirty Dancing Is Coming

Our new found love of all-in mesmerising immersive theatre has just hit new heights.

The idea, borrowed and blown out from epic productions like NYC's Sleep No More, basically removes the stage and asks that you, the audience, actually take part in the action and experience the theatre unfolding around you—even with you.

Following on from this year's immersive theatre pop-ups, A Midnight Visit and The Lock In, we are in for a real treat when the legends at Underground Cinema recreate the world of one of the most iconic movies of the 80s (the 20th century, even). That's right, in March next year for three nights only you’ll be able to dance your way down to the Kellerman’s Mountain Resort and relive the sweet summer of ’63 in all of its glory with a fully-fledged immersive theatre version of Dirty Dancing.

Featuring about 50 dancers and actors, expect to enter a real-life recreation of the Kellerman's resort where you can partake in actual dance lessons, sip cocktails, take part in a talent show, enjoy some real New York-style food at the Kellerman's diner and—to top it all off, enjoy an outdoor screening of the cult classic under the stars.

Looking the part is encouraged so dust off those dancing shoes. And being 1963 and all, you'll need to really take a leap back in time and leave your phone at the door too.

Better start practicing those Swayze lifts. Pre-sale starts next Thursday 15 November. Head here for tickets

6 New Shows Worth Streaming This Month

$
0
0

The warm weather is here at last and frankly, it’s too dang hot. Best to stay on the couch where no-one can see you lying about in your underwear. Lucky for you, our favourite streaming services are making air-conditioning and that fan-life all the more enjoyable by delivering some excellent content. Netflix has hard-hitting drama covered with House of Cards and The Sinner 2, while Stan eases the pain of sunburn with bouncy comedies The Bold Type and A.P Bio.

Here’s every TV show worth streaming this November.

Netflix

House of Cards: Season 6

Everyone’s favourite political drama was touch-and-go for a minute there, but, like the badass she is, Robin Wright saved the show for one last edge-of-your-seat season. Following Claire Underwood's (née Hale) fledgeling presidency, you’ll be treated to intrigue, wild twists, and outstanding performances from, like, everyone. Critics are in consensus that Wright should have been running the show all along; so if you’re a fan of powerhouse female roles, thinly veiled allusions to the current administration, and legit surprising plot points, you need to be all up in this grill. House of Cards is available now on Netflix.

The Sinner: Season 2

The Sinner comes with the words “Emmy and Golden Globe nominated” attached to its name, so, you know, *waves hand at TV*. Fans of season one were treated to the thrill of a good old-fashioned whodunit with a twist: we know whodunit, we just need to figure out whydunit (that’s a thing, right?). Season two follows the same format - we join detective Harry Ambrose, played by the ever lovable Bill Pullman, as he investigates the case of a 13-year-old boy murdering his parents. But WHY did you do it, kid?! *Sharpens pencil* let’s figure this out, Bill. The Sinner 2 arrives on Netflix November 9th.

Stan

Escape at Dannemora

Love a true story? We've got you. Escape at Dannemora is based on the very real happenings of a prison break in upstate New York and the subsequent manhunt. Sure, it’s a serious subject, but something about this trailer says to me, “I’m gonna have a giggle”, don’t you think? Sporting the absolute killer cast of Benicio Del Toro, Patricia Arquette and Paul Dano, Escape at Dannemora is sure to prove to us that sometimes, life is stranger than fiction. The show breaks out on Stan November 18.

The Bold Type

Following the lives of three young women breaking into the magazine industry, The Bold Type promises high fashion and hot sex. Despite being wrapped in bright colours and lipstick, this show is not shying away from the difficult topic of discrimination and the ways in which it affects women. You can watch seasons one and two on Stan from November 9.

A.P Bio

What does a Harvard philosophy scholar do when his life goes down in flames? Teach Advanced Placement Biology at a sad Ohio high school, of course. It’s pretty hard to miss that Jack Griffin would rather not be here as one of his opening lines is, “I don’t want to be here.” But, he’ll make the best of a bad situation… by using his new students to psychologically torment the man who got the job he wanted. What could possibly go wrong? There’s nothing not funny about a human dumpster fire, so get your schadenfreude on. You can watch A.P Bio on Stan now.

Amazon Prime Video

Homecoming

Proving that streaming services are the place to be, Homecoming stars Julia Roberts as the ex-employee of a transitional facility for returning soldiers. Only, when a federal agent comes to ask her about her time there… she can’t remember a thing. Directed by Sam Esmail, the dude responsible for Mr. Robot, this psychological thriller is sure to bend your brain as you try to solve the mystery before the feds do. Get involved, you can watch Homecoming on Amazon Prime now.

NYC Designer Olivia Oblanc Is Adidas Originals’ Next Big Thing

Adidas Originals seem to have quite the knack for buddying up with up-and-coming talent, and their new collaboration with emerging designer, Olivia Oblanc, is looking the goods.

The announcement comes off the back of their recent collaboration with NYC based designer Danielle Cathari, whose capsule’s flew off the shelves. We suggest if you missed out on Cathari’s pieces, you keep your eye out for Oblanc’s.

In recent years Adidas has earned a reputation for unearthing some really rad young designers, and Oblanc is another one to watch.

Bit of background; Oblanc, a graduate of New York Parson’s School of Design, first launched her label OBLANC in 2017. Oblanc’s aesthetic is centred around gender fluidity and sustainability, often using repurposed fabrics to create her designs.

The fresh face has a pretty impressive resume; winning both the CDFA’s Geoffery Beene Design Scholarship and the Hugo Boss Award, it’s easy to see why the German brand tapped her on the shoulder for their next collaboration. Oblanc also placed as a finalist in the Parsons x Kering Empowering Imagination Design Award.

Her androgynous designs and brand vibe has also been inspired by her final year internship at streetwear giant, Hood By Air.

The BTS images released show bright pops of colour, new tracksuit styles and even a pair of creepers.

Inspired by vintage Adidas, heavy branding has become a signature of Oblanc’s, so a fresh take and use of the Adidas logo is likely.

Adidas ambassador Kendall Jenner, who was the muse for Cathari’s collections, is also involved in this release, so we expect to see her sporting some pieces upon their release.

The collection has a launch date of November 17, but details are limited. We suggest keeping your eye on the Adidas socials for drop details.

This Global Beauty Giant Just Received The Cruelty-Free Seal Of Approval

$

In what is the marker of ethical conscience in the beauty world, for any company or product to be legally considered completely cruelty-free means it must rid its entire product production—including all ingredients sourced and suppliers used—of animal testing. From the packaging to the shipping to where ingredients are sourced and supplied from, it’s a process that must be held to the strictest of guidelines, with rigorous (and ongoing) adherence to ensure it can continue to label any product ‘cruelty-free’.

You’ll likely have noticed that 100% cruelty-free products are typically found in smaller, boutique beauty brands, mainly because tracking the production process end-to-end to ensure it meets the exacting standards can be incredibly time intensive and must be transparent.

So, it’s kind of a big deal that CoverGirl (the giant, celebrity-wielding, American juggernaut) just became the largest cosmetics brand in the world to be bestowed the Leaping Bunny Certification. From their insanely popular foundations to their LashExact mascara, each and EVERY product is 100% cruelty-free. And that deserves a bloody massive round of applause!

        View this post on Instagram

Beauties we have MAJOR news: COVERGIRL does not test on animals and now we’re Leaping Bunny certified by @crueltyfreeintl, which means we’re Cruelty Free across ALL our products, EVERYWHERE we’re sold! At COVERGIRL, we believe that you shouldn’t have to choose between the beauty products you ❤️ and the values you believe in. As the biggest makeup brand to achieve the Leaping Bunny certification, we’re committed to getting affordable, ethical makeup into the hands of anyone who wants it. Join us in celebrating our certification and supporting #CrueltyFreeBeauty by sharing your excitement with #COVERGIRLCrueltyFree and #COVERGIRLMADE! *COVERGIRL is not sold in China and with our new BFFs at Cruelty Free International, we are working together to advocate for regulatory change to end animal testing globally

A post shared by COVERGIRL (@covergirl) on Nov 5, 2018 at 3:59am PST

Parent company Coty released a global statement, with Ukonwa Ojo, their Chief Marketing Officer, saying: “Consumers expect brands to be leaders for positive change so today COVERGIRL is taking a stand about making cruelty free cosmetics a mainstream reality. We know we are not alone in wanting a beauty industry that is free from animal cruelty and, working with Cruelty Free International, invite others to join us in turning these conversations into action.”

The globally-recognised Leaping Bunny Certification (courtesy of Cruelty Free International) is not just given out on the fly; it’s the most highly sought-after certificate in the world for recognising companies’ dedication to an animal testing-free beauty industry.

The fact that such an influential brand like CoverGirl can 180 its business model and upstage even some of the most popular cult cosmetics labels releasing ‘cruelty-free’ lines shows that listening to your target audience really does pay off…

Speaking of news, we caught up with Dua Lipa and chatted all things fitness, song writing and a certain new collab with Adidas.

Heads Up, Dozens Of Human Corpses Are On Their Way To Sydney

This is a big one, guys. Body Worlds, the internationally acclaimed exhibition of (slightly gruesome) real human bodies, is arriving in Australia for the first time...and it’s coming to Sydney next month.

You might have spotted this one in James Bond’s Casino Royale. It’s been touring overseas for quite a while, racking up huge audiences (46 million people across 130 cities at last count). Right now it’s in Melbourne, grossing people out and teaching them the finer points of human anatomy.

Each of the bodies has been donated by its, err...owner, for the purposes of public education. To get them ready to show like this, every body underwent a year-long process of ‘plastination’.

It’s meant to show the complexity, resilience and fragility of the human form, without things like skin and clothes getting in the way. You usually have to be a surgeon or a 19th-century gravedigger to get this kind of close-up look, so it should be pretty cool.

So where can you see Body Worlds Vital? It’ll be setting up shop at Sydney Townhall from December 3 and hanging around for the summer.

It’s easy to think, "Oh yeah, just another ‘mind-blowing’ exhibition...we get them all the time". But think about it: each of these was a real person. Like a moving talking person with friends and family and deadlines...

We can feel our skin crawling already. Get your tickets here

THE DETAILS

Where: Sydney Town Hall When: 3 December - 31 March Cost: Tickets start at $32 for adults (very small kids get in FREE)

All The Best New Streaming Services To Get Around

$

0

Turns out, there’s more to life than bingeing all the Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime Video and Foxtel Now content ever. While your bingeing antics can well and truly continue, we thought we’d flag a couple of awesome newcomers on the horizon that are breaking leaps and bounds for streaming services because you know, the bingeing never stops.

For the horror-fanatics, there’s a brand new service packed with the all the horror (as well as sci-fi and Avante-Garde cinema), Snap Originals has proved its scripted short-form TV shows are actually a force to be reckoned with and anyone who’s a die-hard true-crime fan (no pun intended) will be pleased to know there’s a glorious new podcast streaming app loaded with the good stuff.

Here are all the best new streaming services to get around.

Snap Originals

Alongside Facebook Watch, Youtube Premium and IGTV, Snapchat has also jumped on the smartphone streaming shenanigans with its own sling of scripted shows. Meet Snap Originals. The short-form mobile TV shows set in vertical format with split screens and quick cuts for ultimate smartphone viewing (episodes hang around the five-minute mark because you know, time is of the essence). And what to expect in terms of actual content? Well, upcoming Snap Originals have been produced by the Duplass Brothers (from the Netflix doco Wild Wild Country), Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker) and include writers from shows like Riverdale so there’s no doubt about the binge-worthiness of these gems. Find out more right here.

Shudder

This one’s for the horror movie fans. Shudder is an American screaming streaming service, owned by AMC Networks, that came out in 2015 and has since worked its way over to Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria. The main genres are horror, sci-fi, suspense, thriller and Avante-Garde cinema, with some added fruity sub-genres like demonic possessions, smart vampire movies (??) and lost classics (just to keep things interesting). You can find out more about it right here.

Comicast

Meet the beautiful new podcast streaming app all about true-crime. The whole point of Cosmicast is simplicity: it’s easy to search, filter, save libraries and switch up your theme. This slick little player is available on iOS and it’ll only cost you a couple of bucks which in the end, is absolutely worth the hundreds of hours you’ll be kicking it back and tuning in. Download it here.

Sundance Now

Sundance Now, another service by AMC Networks that launched in 2010. If the name Sundance rings a bell, it’s because the service is based off the US Sundance Film Festival, which celebrates all things weird and wonderful in the world of indie docos, features and short films. Like the festival, Sundance Now will offer viewers a curated collection of award-winning independent movies and docos, as well as foreign films, binge-worthy TV series and the usual genre roundups (don’t worry, there’s plenty of rom-coms). You can find out more about this one right here.

Disney Play

Yep, Disney is set to launch its very own streaming service in 2019...and from what we can tell, it’ll be cheaper than Netflix. Until now, most of the details have been super hush hush. But an interview with Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger in Variety spilt a couple of cartoon beans. Including a name: Disney Play. Obviously what you’ll find on Disney Play is Disney stuff, which means you won’t get the infinite scroll-fest of Netflix. They’re gonna have a bunch of Marvel titles, the new Star Wars movies (including a brand new live-action Star Wars series, directed by John Favreau), everything Pixar and all your favourite childhood cartoons. Check out all the details on this one right here.

Still keen for a solid binge? Here’s everything worth bingeing right now.

Ziggy Alberts Dropped A New Album Just In Time For Your Summer Road Trip

The surfy singer-songwriter teased us with new tunes like Stronger and Love Me Now but now, Ziggy Alberts has finally dropped his entire new album titled Laps Around The Sun and we can confirm, it’s a road trip goldy.

This time around, the album is full of firsts and Ziggy has called it his most “honest work to date”. The 24-year-old is preaching all things storytelling throughout his fifth independently released album with most songs drawing from themes of discovery and moving from one relationship to another.

His famous acoustic guitar is still the main affair but songs span across a number of genres with piano and the good ol’ banjo both making an appearance. If you’re a real fan, you can buy the whole damn album here.

If you missed out on the big news, H.E.R also dropped the second part of her I Used To Know Her album and it's insane.

One of our all-time favourite establishments, MS.G’s is hosting two nights full of bespoke cocktails and chef collabs. Yep, this modern Asian dining joint in Potts Point is home to The Blend series—which is basically a big whisky bash hosted by chef and all-around awesome dude Dan Hong and a roundup of next-level international chefs.

First off, Dan brought over chef Kris Yenbamroong from LA's Night + Market's  (basically one of the tastiest spots in Venice Beach).

You can expect Chivas Regal cocktails all night long, each paired perfectly with a set menu of seriously good party snacks. Go for the grilled rib eye with XO sauce or the pork dumplings with chilli oil, sesame and Sichuan pepper.

11 Reasons You Need To Hit Beijing For Your Next Holiday

$
0
0

A city with more than 3000 years of recorded history, a fast-approaching future and an ever-changing present, Beijing is a bit of a jackpot for experience-seeking travellers. The fact that somehow this poster-city of speedy development has retained such strong remnants of its past means all good things for tourists: sleek fine dining haunts with views over the historic Forbidden City, for example, or contemporary, design-focused boutique hotels set in traditional courtyard residences. In this city full of contradictions, the surprises are endless.

While Beijing remains somewhat elusive as a travel destination—a sprawling metropolis packing in 21million people isn’t necessarily your first thought when planning an escape on what minimal annual leave you might have—it’s got much more to offer than people often perceive. Here are 11 reasons to visit Beijing.

1. There’s An Entire Neighbourhood Dedicated To Art

You might have to venture pretty far from central Beijing to get there, but the 798 Art District will reward your effort tenfold with pop-up galleries, international exhibitions, working artists’ studios, bookshops, design and publishing houses and awe-inspiring architecture. The district is made up of a labyrinth of decommissioned military factories with distinct architectural styles, which were taken over by an emerging artistic community in the late 90’s and formally reimagined as the 798 District in 2002.

Perhaps most famous as the home of artist, designer and activist Ai Wei Wei (you know, the guy who designed the ‘Bird’s Nest’ for the Beijing Olympics?), the dedicated art zone represents China’s cutting edge art movement and is a place where social commentary, activism and self-expression seem to find sanctuary. The district is also famous for its special events and late-night parties, particularly of the LGBTQI+ persuasion, but is equally as enjoyable on a quiet afternoon—with free entry to almost all galleries and studios to boot. Don’t forget your camera.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

2. The Hutongs

Beijing is unique for many reasons, but chief among them is the city’s iconic hutongs—narrow, winding alleys and streets that wrap around traditional courtyard residences and, today, form the inner-most neighbourhoods of Beijing. The hutongs are where old and new meet: Wudaoying hutong, for example, leads down to the Lama Temple built in 1694, and is full of boutique shops boasting emerging designer clothing, ceramics and art, trendy bars and specialty coffee shops, plus leafy overhangs and some seriously ‘grammable exteriors.

You could wander for hours getting lost in the hutongs—stumbling upon random vintage shops and concept stores, lusting after luxurious homeware-adorned window displays and consuming an array of teas, coffees and treats—but if you want to map your hutong visit, there’s a couple that you absolutely can’t miss. If you’ve done your research, you’ll probably base your stay in the Andingmen district, just inside the second ring road—one of the most beautiful and exciting hutong areas in the city. From here, you can explore an open-air food market down Nanluoguxiang, trying everything from chicken feet to sesame sweets—but prepare for tourist mayhem. Be sure to veer off down Yu Er and Mao Er hutongs for some slightly quieter pleasures, and head to Guozijian Jie for some of Beijing’s best boutique shopping.

The area south of the Forbidden City is territory less-trodden by western tourists, but Liulichang and Yang Mei Zhu Xie Jie hutongs are essential stops. Historically, Liulichang was the go-to for calligraphy and art supplies, and a meeting place for poets, scholars and writers. Today it’s much the same—there are a few genuine stores selling such supplies, plus slightly more touristic shops selling artwork, antiques and books—in fact, you can even watch masters at work doing calligraphy, and explore Beijing’s largest second-hand and ancient bookstore. Liulichang boasts uniquely traditional architecture from the Ming dynasty, and, if you meander long enough, silently turns into Yang Mei Zhu Xie Jie—a quiet byway where you’re just as likely to catch an old man sunning his stomach as you are the latest young designer’s pop-up warehouse sale. If you visit in the late afternoon, Yang Mei presents plenty of opportunities for a beer and dinner at the end of the day (read: Suzuki Kitchen).

3. It’s The Capital Of The World’s Most Food-Obsessed Country

If you’re not in it for the mind-boggling history or the vastly different cultural experience, you must be in it for China’s insanely tantalising foodscape. From humble food like Jianbing (Chinese pancake), spicy eggplant and belt noodles eaten roadside, to all-out banquet feasts in grandiose duck houses, to hyper-contemporary fine diners, there’s some serious ground to cover when it comes to eating in Beijing.

Some of the best meals you’ll have will be in the most unassuming of places, so be adventurous—look around at what locals are eating and point to what you like, and if all else fails: order the eggplant (茄子).But if you’re a foodie, there’s a few places and dishes that make for essential eating: roast duck at Jingzun or Da Dong, rainbow-hued dumplings at Baoyuan Jiaozi Wu, Sichuan hot pot at Haidilao and knife-cut noodle soup at Tak Yong, just to name a few.

When you’ve had your fill of carbs and oil, Beijing also boasts a number of contemporary Chinese and western eateries that should be on your hit-list. A delicious set-menu of shared dishes from Yunnan province await you at the charming Dali Courtyard (think grilled chilli fish, stir-fried mushrooms and wild vegetables), and low-key Japanese comfort food is the main game at must-visit Suzuki Kitchen, which has a couple of inner-city outposts. For the fine diners, Temple Restaurant is French sophistication set in 600-year-old Chinese tradition, complete with Forbidden City views.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

4. Craft Beer Is A Thing

Much like the new-wave coffee scene, Beijing’s craft beer industry has taken off in recent years in the way of contemporary microbreweries and rollicking brew pubs, which are worth their weight in liquid gold in a country previously dominated by the likes of Tsingtao.

For heady, frothy pint-pulling and pub eats, head straight to where it all started: Great Leap Brewing, who boast but three outposts that they’ve no trouble filling. For something more intimate and complete with cocktails on tap for those non-beer drinkers among us, Jing-A Brewing Co. in Sanlitun offers a bunch of core and seasonal beers on tap, plus cathedral-high ceilings, exposed brick and dangling bulbs that send Jing-A’s ambience score into double digits. Arrow Factory Brewing also offers a classy taproom and open-air deck for the tasting of China’s finest, and Slow Boat's three-storey Sanlitun brewpub is a theatrical-doing of the hallmark beers and burgers combo that you won’t regret indulging in one bit.

5. Insanely ‘Grammable Cafes That Actually Make Good Coffee

There’s a common misperception that you can’t get a good coffee in Beijing—while this is true for most of China, its capital city is strides ahead. The hutong areas in particular are dotted with so many gorgeous cafes that you could spend a whole day visiting them all, flooding your Insta feed with enviable shots of exposed brick, copper fittings, lush greenery, and white ceramics. But these spots aren’t just kind on the eye—they’re serving up some expertly brewed coffee with a meticulous penchant for detail and quality.

Among the best places to get your caffeine fix are Metal Hands (they’ve got two outposts: one in the buzzing Wudaoying hutong and another far quieter and more spacious spot in Jiaodaokou North 2nd Alley), the industrial chic Corner Cafe near Ditan Park and Voyage Coffee, a specialty coffee-laden sanctuary at the northern end of touristy Nanluoguxiang. Bring a book, you’ll want to stay for hours.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

6. World-Class Shopping To Blow Your Heard-Earned

It’s no secret that the consumerist culture in China is without peer, so you won’t be surprised to hear that there are an almost overwhelming number of opportunities to haemorrhage cash while in Beijing. The obvious first stop is Wangfujing Street, which runs down basically the entire eastern side of Beijing’s first ring, dominated by the elaborate facades of shops like Adidas, Zara and the Japanese. A shopping trip here isn’t complete without veering off into the Wangfujing Food Market to fuel up on some bonkers snacks (read: live insects on sticks).

The more high-end shopping takes place in Sanlitun and the Xidan commercial district, which both make for pretty exciting outings if you want to really take in Beijing’s incredible scale. If boutique shopping is more your thing, stick to the hutong areas. Beeline for Triple Major in Yang Mei Zhu Xie Jie, White Is Good and Paint in Guozijian Jie to suss some of Beijing’s trendiest designers of the moment. If you want to choke on lush homewares, head straight to Lost and Found and FNJI in Dongcheng, while bookworms should not miss Qianmen’s Page One, a spectacle even for the illiterate with its multi-floor-spanning bookshelves and sleek access staircases.

7. Bars And Nightclubs Worth The Hangover

Despite suffering a slight neutering over the last few years, Beijing’s night-life is alive and well if you know where to go. For those favouring a well-crafted cocktail, one of Sanlitun’s many upscale bars should do the trick: try Mesh, which is housed in the very chic Opposite House, a boutique hotel that’s good for more than just sleeping. For something a little more fun, La Sociale delivers an eclectic but vibrant mix of South American beats, fish-bowl cocktails and coloured lights—if you can see the walls for the sardine-packed bodies, they’re adorned with a collection of communist and Catholic regalia that pitch the joint somewhere between kitsch and cool.

Late-night jazz is also an option at Modernista, a charming little two-storey Art Deco joint that’s inadvertently adopted a speakeasy-style after their front doors were bricked up in a recent governmental city sweep. Of course, there’s always the Sanlitun super clubs for the bottle-popping party crowd—Club Sir.Teen is a standout for their electronic music, light shows and impressive entertainment, while the likes of Lantern and Dada offer something more underground, from disco and house, to techno, funk, hip-hop and afro beats.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

8. There’s A Neon Neighbourhood

One of Beijing’s more distinctly Chinese nights out takes place in Hòuhǎi, an area comprised of three lakes joined by bottleneck bridges and flanked by willow trees. During the day, the area tends to heave with locals—mostly elderly people using the many public exercise machines and playing highly competitive rounds of table tennis in summer, or ice-skating in winter—and tourists circling the lakes in rent-a-pedalos. But by night, the area turns into a popular nightlife spot complete with rickety rooftop dive bars, bustling novelty restaurants and the all-important blinding neon lights.

While there are a couple of diamantes in the rough if you meander down the hutongs further back from the water’s edge, drinking and dining here is more on the tacky side of tacky-chic—and that’s kind of the point. If you don’t want to hear live bands busting out Chinese versions of Bon Jovi songs, you’re in the wrong place.

9. Tick Off A Wonder Of The World With A Day-Trip

The Great Wall of China looms large on many-a bucket list, and so it should—this enormous feat of engineering and workmanship is not only a vestige of a past era but also a spectacular sight to behold. It’s possible to make a day trip from Beijing to the Great Wall, and you’ll regret it if you don’t! Multiple parts of the wall are accessible from the capital, the most-visited of which is Badaling—a very well-preserved stretch of wall that offers cable car access and some of the best vistas going around.

Another option is to book an overnight stay in the charming little water town of Gubeikhouzen, from where you can visit the partially-restored Simatai section of wall by both day and night. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch Gubei’s nightly-but-weather-dependent drone-lantern show which inspires joy in even the most exhausted of adults! Mutianyu, Juyongguan and Jinshanling are also doable in a day from Beijing, as are ‘wild’ sections Jiankou and Huanghuacheng—though you might want to allow more time here, as these sections are not necessarily geared for tourism.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

10. There's More History Than You Can Shake A Stick At

Beijing is one of those rare gems of a city where you can enjoy contemporary boutique shopping and trendy bars one day and ancient wonders steeped in rich cultural history the next. In fact, said cultural history is so central to life in Beijing that it is literally that: the centre of the city.

The entire city revolves around your first historical-tour stop—the Forbidden City, which is well worth seeing even despite the tourist hordes. Go early in the morning to make it a more peaceful visit, or, if you’ve only got a midday slot to give, cop yourself an aerial view of this elaborate palace complex by heading to the top of the adjacent Jingshan Park. Of course, a visit to the Imperial City wouldn’t be complete without a walk through Tiananmen Square and even a visit to the Soviet-inspired Mao’s Mausoleum, where the surreal sight of the former leader’s embalmed corpse acts as a reminder of where you are.

Beyond the city’s historical crux, sites to see include the peaceful and vibrant Tibetan Buddhist Lama Temple. You’ll find this one by heading to Yonghegong street, and then following the all-engulfing smell of incense. As mandatory a stop in Beijing as the Great Wall or Forbidden City is the Summer Palace, former playground for past Emperors fleeing the unbearable heat of the old imperial city. Hilltop views, a massive glistening lake, tranquil gardens and a bevy of temples, pavilions, bridges and corridors to explore make this one of Beijing’s more enjoyable tourist haunts, without compromising the dosage of history.

Round things out with a visit to the Temple of Heaven Park, an oasis of peace and Confucian design complete with all the arrangements typical of Chinese parks—obsessively straight lines, repetitive patterns, order and symmetry, all of which produce a surprisingly harmonising result.

Reasons To Visit Beijing

11. Seriously Lust-Worthy Accommodation Options

From traditional Chinese courtyard residences styled-up for Western sensitivities to all-out luxurious boutique hotels, the only hard part about finding a place to stay in Beijing is the part where you have to choose. Make yourself at home in your very own private courtyard residence at The Orchid, who offer both converted (and gorgeously appointed) hutong homes for privacy or the comfort of their original boutique hotel in the lively Gulou area—complete with a rooftop eatery that serves a delicious shakshuka, coffee and wine.

Get a feel for local Beijing life at one of Beijing 161 Hotel's five design-focused boutique properties, set in the hutong area surrounding the Lama Temple, or really turn things up a notch by booking into The Opposite House, a striking hotel designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, combining dramatic contemporary style with traditional Chinese accents. If you’re on a budget, Airbnb can actually be the best option—but make sure you get in well in advance of your trip to snag the hottest homes for the lowest price.

Got some extra annual leave up your sleeve? Glamping on the Bolivian Salt Flats is going to be a glorious reality next year so book it in.

All The Walks You Need To Tick Off In New York City

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it 20 times: New York is a walking city. Sure, you’ve got yellow cabs and Ubers and the Subway, but getting around on foot is the best way to cram in all the sights, sounds, and foods.

Get on your walking shoes, friends, we’re about to hit the pavement. Here are the best walks in New York City.

Hudson River Park Walk

Hudon River Park is an ace spot to spend some much-needed strolling time. This enormous (500 acres to be exact) park runs from Lower Manhattan to Washington Square Park, with The Hudson River (locals just call it The Hudson) on one side and Riverside Drive on the other. There’s plenty to do along the way: search for The Little Red Lighthouse at the Washington Height end, or get your Carrie Bradshaw on and try the trapeze at Pier 40. If you’re finishing up in Lower Manhattan, you can keep going all the way to Wall Street. Be sure to drop in on Dominique Ansel Bakery for a frozen s’more or Cronut.

Prospect Park And Brooklyn Walk

No visit to Brooklyn is complete without a lovely walk through the picturesque Prospect Park. Start at Machate Circle then meander through the park, stopping to admire lake, and make your way to Brooklyn Botanic Garden or Brooklyn Museum for some culture. If you find yourself there on a Sunday, make your way to Smorgasburg for a feed. Any other day, hightail it to Franklin Avenue and explore all of your drinking options. Head to Butter & Scotch for desserts and cocktails if you’re low on blood sugar, or The Crown Inn if you just want to rub shoulders with the locals over a beer.

The High Line

C’mon, you knew it was coming, right? The High Line is a given for any NYC tourist. Take an easy stroll along the 1.5 mile ex-freight rail path that runs from Hudson Yards to Chelsea. There’s art installations along the way, as well as plenty of places to stop and take in the view. Tip: Avoid weekends during the day if possible, to avoid a sea of prams. Head to Artichoke Basille’s for a slice o’pizza afterwards. Or hit up Bathtub Gin for a good stiff cocktail.

Best Walks NYC

Williamsburg Bridge Walk

This is the other bridge in Brooklyn. It may be less top-of-mind, but it’s no less worth your time. The pink sister to The Brooklyn Bridge, The Williamsburg Bridge is pink, covered in all the graffiti you could need to gawk at, and plenty of great places to snack before and after. If you’re starting in the East Village, fuel up with a coffee and croissant from Supermoon Bakehouse, then reward yourself with a fried catfish sandwich from Pies ‘n’ Thighs

Central Park

Come on. You gotta. Some may argue this is a given and had no place in a list about New York. But some can sit down and be schooled. Because Central Park is bigger than big, so you need to know where to focus your attention. If you’ve got time and you’re feeling all NYC’d out, make your way to The Ramble in the heart of the park, it’s a peaceful, dense spot that will make you forget there’s a city nearby. Otherwise, be sure to hit The Pond, Bethesda Terrace and Strawberry Fields for some truly iconic sights. Grab a hot dog or a pretzel from one of the squillion vendors when you need fuel.

Best Walks NYC

Fifth Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn

This is the other Fifth Avenue. The one without the boutiques. But it’s still great, which is why you should take a stroll down it. There’s no telling how long it will take, because there are so many places to pop your head into, but it’s the perfect combination of residential, trendy, and pretty. The kind of place that makes you say “I wonder how much it would be to rent a place around here” and then say “oh, never mind”. Console yourself with brunch at Miriam’s.

Brooklyn Bridge Walk

If you don’t walk the Brooklyn Bridge, did you even go to New York? Of course you did, but this helps. Be warned: it’s busy, so do it early or do it midweek. You can do it in half an hour if you shove, but I recommend giving it an hour and taking your time. Take photos, bend down to pat dogs, stop and take in the views. When you’re done, get your behind to Grimaldi’s for a breakfast pizza. This is non-negotiable. Be sure to hit Brooklyn Bridge Park along the way, because it’s awesome.

Best Walks NYC

Union Square Greenmarket

The Union Square Greenmarket is not a long walk, but it’s a lovely walk. And there is lots of food and flowers. There are different stalls and vendors depending on the day, but you’re always bound to stroll around and find something delicious. A wise person once told me that when it comes to travelling, the golden rule is “if you see a line, join it”, and I encourage you to live by this at Union Square Greenmarket. The locals know what they’re about.

Fifth Avenue To Washington Square Park

If there’s a more eye-popping, consumerist walk in New York, I don’t want to know about it. The stroll from Fifth Avenue will take you as long as it takes to pop in and out of the squillion stores, gawp (and potentially flip the bird) at Trump Tower, and take a detour to Eataly in Flatiron. Load up the credit card and put on the trainers, you’re going to rack up some serious steps on this one.

This week is all about food, whisky and trivia. We’re sending you all around Sydney with these events, so strap yourself in and make the most of it.

Here are five awesome things to do this week in Sydney.

Monday 12 November

THE BLEND

Our all-time fave establishment Ms.G’s is hosting two nights full of bespoke cocktails and chef collabs. This modern Asian dining joint in Potts Point is home to The Blend series, with this month being the second event held. Chivas Regal cocktails all night long and paired perfectly with a set menu for patrons. Go for the grilled rib eye with XO sauce or the pork dumplings with chilli oil, sesame and Sichuan pepper. You get the chance to blend your own cocktail to keep. With DJ Levins banging out tunes each night, pull your mates down for a sip and taste. For bookings, head here.

When: Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 November, 6:30pm Where: Ms.G’s, Potts Point Cost: $85 per person

Tuesday 13 November

TACO TUESDAY PARTY

This week is the very first week of the new Manly Tex-Mex joint starting taco Tuesdays. Serving $2 tacos Lionel Richie style, all night long. Of course there’ll be banging beats playing with playlists throwing it back to the 90’s and early 00’s. But, my advice is to be there from 4-6pm because happy hour means $7.50 margaritas (both classic and frozen). For more info, check this out.

When: Tuesday 13 November, 11-12am Where: El Camino Cantina, Manly

MEAN GIRLS TRIVIA NIGHT

Get in loser, we’re going to Side Bar. This Sydney bar always brings us the best of the best trivia nights and this night is no exception. One of the most iconic movies from the early 2000’s with the most quotable script, will have you saying ‘you go Glen Coco’. Brush up your knowledge and watch it all over again so you can win some awesome prizes. And remember to put your hands up if you’ve ever been personally victimised by trivia night competitors. Jump over here for more details.

When: Tuesday 13 November, 7pm Where: Side Bar, Sydney

Wednesday 14 November

JAPANESE BONSAI PAINT & SIP

We all love a good paint n’ sip party, especially when following the most aesthetically pleasing pictures. This Japanese Bonsai will be something you’ll want to hang up for all to see (if you don’t mess it up). Come talented artists and those who get A’s for effort, because all skill sets are welcome here. And who wouldn’t want to be sipping on some sweet vino while painting? To snap up your tickets, head here.

When: Wednesday 14 November, 7-9pm Where: Cork & Canvas, Crows Nest Cost: $50 per person

DINNER WITH CAMPARI

Get ready for the ultimate Italian feast, hosted by Fratelli Fresh, Campari is hitting up their kitchen and creating dishes that will perfectly pair to the iconic drink. With a three-course menu to make anyone excited, they will be serving drinks with each course along with an Aperol Spritz upon arrival. The dishes, created by Fratelli’s head chef, will include wild mushroom risotto, followed by a chocolate orange torta. For more info, head here.
