It’s so close we can almost taste it: the Australia Day long weekend.

While the sun, sand and salty sea may be calling you, here at Urban List we’re drooling over the menu of Australiana feeds on offer. So wrap up your morning swim and call tea on your beach cricket match because The Star Sydney is serving up an unmissable smorgasbord of true blue eats.

#1 Lamington Cocktails

Yes really—your favourite fluffy coconut-choc treat is now in cocktail form. Rock Lily’s utterly moreish creation is made with Baileys, Tia Maria, milk and a dash of coconut syrup. The signature drink is $16 and available all weekend alongside a slew of DJ acts including Yo! Mafia and Konecs pumping tunes from 7pm until late.

#2 BBQ Buffet

No need to fight over the last chop because Harvest Buffet is grilling everything from slow cooked beef cheeks, sirloin steaks, BBQ pork ribs, lemon myrtle roasted lamb leg and your traditional bangers and mash for The Great Australian Bite. The one and a half hour sitting will only set you back $53.90 and includes your choice of pavlova or lamington (or both) for dessert.

#3 The Perfect Meat Pie

In case you missed it, classic steakhouse BLACK Bar & Grill is taking on the quintessential Aussie favourite: the meat pie. Upping the ante, the signature dining venue has opted for Wagyu beef, flaky puff pastry, smashed peas, smoked potato and a droolworthy Shiraz jus—this isn’t your ordinary pie.

#4 Surf And Turf

Known for only the freshest seafood, Flying Fish have sourced the finest Spencer Gulf prawns from South Australia dusted with macadamia and glazed with mango kombucha. Make sure you save room for the mouth-watering milo chocolate mousse with vegemite caramel to finish.

Meanwhile award-winning Japanese restaurant Sokyo will be serving up their spin on Australian surf and turf with prawn robata in a lime and shiso salsa followed by a wagyu scotch fillet with finger lime and sauteed kohlrabi.

#5 Vegemite Chicken Wings

Hear us out. Think succulent chicken wings with a crispy vegemite glaze providing the perfect balance of salty sweetness. The best part? No need to limit yourself because you’ll get six for $6 or twelve for $12 at the 24/7 Sports Bar. Why not challenge your mates to an all-you-can-eat chicken wing competition in between overs.

#6 Burgers And Beers

Speaking of sports, the Australia Day long weekend is chockers with test cricket between Australia and Sri Lanka, the Australian Open finals and multiple A-League games. So to fuel you for the festivities, the 24/7 Sports Bar is also serving up a slew of Aussie classics with beer specials. Think your choice of a burger, scotch fillet or chicken parmigiana with a bottle of Toohey’s New all for $20.

Whatever your Australiana cravings, The Star has you sorted all weekend long.
