You’ll know the Thorpe brothers from Darlinghurst's award-winning craft beer pub, The Taphouse — just your local joint for all things wild ale and natural wine. Now, these guys have acquired The Oxford Tavern in Petersham with the ultimate goal of installing a brewery within the venue.
Given its location in the heart of Sydney breweries, the pub will focus exclusively on locally made independent brews on tap, plus will intro a line-up of craft labels prioritising breweries within a 5km radius of the pub.
No doubt The Oxford Tavern is famous for its smoker BBQ and the Thorpe brothers will be on a mission to restore it to its former glory. Along with this, you can expect the return of its iconic Sunday roast with a BBQ twist so think smoked brisket, pork belly, lashings of gravy, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and a Yorkshire pudding to match.
To kick off the new tenure, the team is hosting a number of solid events this long weekend:
Drain The Swamp
In other words, $5 schooners and cans. In order to make way for all the new local brews, the guys are basically draining the tap space so, you know what to do.

Oxford Brewing Racket x Capital Brewing Co ‘HI-VIS’ Neipa launch party
Along with the new venue, the Thorpe brother’s have also created a new brewing label—The Oxford Brewing Racket. To celebrate, they’ve brewed a beer in collaboration with Capital Brewing Co called ‘HI-VIS’ NEIPA, a mango and turmeric New England IPA. And yes, hi vis attire should be worn to the launch party. Naturally.
