Fluorescent Adolescent is an anthem. Period.

So when the dudes behind this banger announce an official Australian tour, excuse us for going completely nuts. The Arctic Monkeys last played on our soil almost five years ago so needless to say, we’re all quite overdue for a reunion.

The tour follows their sixth album, Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino and which also just happened to be the fastest-selling vinyl record in the UK in over 25 years. As for the pipeline tour, it’ll be a glorious mix of old vs. new Arctic Monkey tracks which means all the feel-good vibes are coming.

These guys are touring all throughout Australia, stopping in a bunch of major cities. Check out the full tour dates below:

These Are The Most Outrageous And Exciting Events At Syd Fest 2019

Maybe one of the most awkward, prickly things about theatre is that you are forced to live what’s being played out before you. In the dark, up close and unable to make a sound, there are no screens to act as barriers or distractions.

No matter what you’re watching, it can be excruciating and exhilarating. Point is, you’ll typically feel something pretty strong, no matter the calibre or content.

The program for Syd Fest 2019 has dropped and there's a lot to take in, from performance art through to live music, dance, and immersive theatre. As well as the powerful, soulful voice of trip-hop legend Neneh Cherry, next year's program asks you to reunite with your attention span, spark up your imagination and get set to really (really) feel something.

The theme for 2019 is 'Immersion' and festival director Wesley Enoch has given you a whole universe of extreme to dive right into.

Reckon you could endure a 9-hour performance of Homer's Illiad? Totally transport yourself to a nightclub in 1970s Paris? Take a bubble bath with a performance artist? Cycle the distance to the moon? Are you ready to get beneath the surface of some of the most pressing topics of our time?

Here's our pick of some of the most outrageous and exciting acts at Syd Fest 2019.

Nick Cave: Until

American artist Nick Cave's enormous floating crystal cloudscape will blow your mind. Made of crystals, beads, ceramic birds and tonnes of bric-a-brac, the epic installation speaks to the intricate, storied and urgent issues of gun violence, gender, police brutality and race in the States. You can climb up into the installation, and peer down into it too. Keep an eye out for the crocodile. More info is here

When: 23 November, 2018 - 3 March, 2019 Where: Carriageworks Cost: Free

The Chat

Set in an imagined future, this dark play explores big issues with the Australian criminal justice system. Performed by actual ex-offenders, the play reveals uncomfortable complexities surrounding real freedom and people who have 'done their time'. Imagine Shawshank Redemption, but a whole lot more real. Get tickets, here.

When: 16 - 20 January, 2019 Where: Carriageworks Cost: $39 + BF

The Ropes

Amrita Hepi is a Sydney based writer, choreographer, artist and activist. The visual language she plays with is bright and bold: dancers tumbling over a motorbike and a giant peach-coloured inflatable dome that breathes. She's concerned with self-determination, cultural identity and how dance can carry self-expression and cultural celebration. For Syd Fest 2019, she's created a video installation that builds upon the rich history of skipping and weaving that will be shown alongside work from Venice Biennale Gold Lion winner Adrian Piper.

Fly Me To The Moon

To cheer in the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and celebrate the astronauts and mathematicians that got us there, Syd Fest is hosting a whole heap of lunar activities. Get your 'gram on at Barangaroo South with Sydmonauts—a gang of 11 larger than life (like, huge) astronaut sculptures to honour Apollo 11. There'll be giant floating heliospheres, big black 'moon drops' you can bounce around on, and an exhibition of astro artifacts at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. Syd Fest is also asking Sydney to jump on a bike and collectively cycle the distance to the moon. Find out how you can, here

When: 9 - 28 January, 2019 Where: Various locations Cost: Free

The Iliad — Out Loud

We all love a good binge. Like, staying home all day soaking up the best of Netflix. Based on the idea that Homer's Illiad (that really long ancient Greek poem about war and violence and betrayal) is kind of an antique version of Game of Thrones,  playwright William Zappa has devised a new live rhythmic adaptation of the poem complete with episode recaps. You can witness it in one 9-hour stretch, or three 3-hour parts across three nights. Get tickets, here

When: 23 - 27 January, 2019 Where: Belvoir Street Theatre Cost: $36 – $79.95 + BF

Biladurang

Loosely based on the Dreamtime story of the Biladurang (the weird and wonderful creature otherwise known as the platypus), this one-man show is super, super intimate. Created and performed by proud Wiradjuri man Joel Bray, you'll put a bathrobe on and share your most awe-inspired stories in a hotel room at QT Sydney. The play is led by audience interaction, but at one point Joel will indulge in a bubble bath (because why else do you stay in hotel rooms?). Tickets are here.

When: 11 - 20 January, 2019 Where: QT Sydney Cost: $56 + BF

Home

Described as a "house party where the whole audience is invited", this play is a magical, immersive spectacle that asks us to think about what home can really mean. Basically, award-winning theatre genius Geoff Sobelle will build a home up from an empty stage as inhabitants eat, sleep, love, argue and throw a party. In the end, you get to get on stage and join in. More info, here

When: 9 - 18 January, 2019 Where: Roslyn Packer Theatre Cost: $50 - $95 + BF

Daughter

For everyone who has watched Hannah Gadsby's absolutely electrifying, gut-wrenching Netflix Special, Nanette—this one-man monologue will take you down a similar, sobering path. Not for the faint of heart (women in the audience walked out at Edinburgh Fringe), it's a confessional that unearths the darkest corners of humanity and the toxicity in modern masculinity. Tickets and more info, here

When: 10 - 13 January, 2019 Where: Carriageworks Cost: $36 – $41 + BF

Pigalle

The Paris club scene has always been cool, but it was extra slick in the 70s during the iconic, glittery disco era. Held in the Magic Mirrors Spiegel Tent, Pigalle will totally transport you to the city of lights and the decade of discotheque with a smack of burlesque and circus stuff too. Tickets are here

When: 8 - 27 January, 2019 Where: Magic Mirrors Spiegel Tent Cost: $70 - $80 + BF

Get Ready For Espresso Martinis And Unlimited Canapés At This Exclusive Melbourne Cup Party

Melbourne Cup is so close we can almost taste it.

The race doesn’t stop the nation for no reason and Sydney-siders come out in full force every year to don their best and soak up the sun—any excuse to leave work at midday, after all.

We couldn’t let our friends south of the border have all the fun so we scoured our city for an event that will tick all the boxes. If you can't be in Melbourne for the big day, then head straight to Fratelli Fresh in Darling Harbour for a massive outdoor marquee, lush green lawn, LIVE entertainment, DJs and of course, big screens to watch the race.

Tuck into unlimited canapés—and we mean, unlimited—including calamari fritti with aioli, three-cheese arancini, grilled halloumi, housemade lamb ragu pasta, salads and mushroom risotto. Next, take your pick between two packages, and dance the day away while you sip on your choice of prosecco, Aperol spritz, espresso martinis, beer, wine, or all of the above. There will also be a pop-up Redbull Organics Bar and we’re so sorry, did we forget to mention there are dedicated pizza AND gelato stations? There are. Sold.

But the day doesn’t end there. Your ticket grants you free entry to the official after party for kick-ons. Tickets are limited, and with Melbourne Cup just around the corner you'll want to rally the crew and get in quick.

The Details

When: 12-3pm Tuesday 6 November, 2018 Where: Fratelli Fresh, Tenancy 2, 14 Darling Drive, Darling Harbour Package 1: $99pp including roaming canapes, beer, wine and prosecco Package 2: $125pp including roaming canapes, espresso martinis, Aperol spritz, beer, wine and prosecco. For tickets head here or call 02 9259 5600.

If by any chance you miss out (we told you to hurry!), you can always book in for a $60pp 3-course lunch at another Fratelli Fresh venue. If you love champagne, Saké Restaurant & Bar in Double Bay and The Rocks are putting on a six-course lunch for $139pp with additional Veuve Cliquot beverage package available for $79. Or if you fancy a fiesta for Melbourne Cup, head to El Camino Cantina for a 4-hour food and beverage package for $99pp including a build-your-own taco station and LIVE entertainment.

Drink responsibly.

All The Australian Road Trips You Should Take At Least Once In Your Life

$
0
0

Get some red dirt on your tyres and some bugs on your windscreen, test friendships, play eye-spy, spot wildlife, push your stomach to the limit on roadhouse food, sing-along to sweet chunes and let beautiful landscapes unfurl in front of you.

Don’t, I repeat—DON’T—watch Wolf Creek.

Cause you going on a road trip guuurl/boooiiii.

Pack the car, grab a mate and head for the open road. Here are some crackin’ Australian road trips that are all about the journey and not the destination.

New South Wales

The Kosciuszko Alpine Way

120km

Mountains upon mountains upon mountains. Yep, the Alpine way is one helluva beauty and will set you up to witness picturesque valleys plus there is a heap of walking trails, fishing stops and even mountain biking areas for you to take advantage of. This drive joins Jindabyne in the southern region of Kosciuszko National Park and takes you through the forests of the Snowy Mountains region

Grand Pacific Drive

140km

This scenic drive through charming coastal towns starts in Sydney’s Royal National Park and finishes at the resplendent Sapphire Coast. You may have the same ocean on your side as you drive down this stretch of road, but the backdrop will be ever-changing. Roll through rainforests, shoot over the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge and take some pit-stops at wineries along the way. Exploring the picturesque towns of Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama is another joy of this route. Adrenaline junkies can get their fix hang gliding, sky diving or ziplining and foodies can take their pick at one of the orchards, oyster farms or cheese factories along the way. Glamp, camp, check out Bald Hill Lookout, walk the Blue Mile… there’s so much to do.

Northern Territory

Nature’s Way Drive

457km

Photographers, adventurers, ornithologists and the outdoorsy types will love this picturesque journey through geological wonders. Nature’s Way Drive begins at the World-Heritage listed Kakadu National Park and loops it’s way through sunburnt country, creeks, waterfalls and swimming holes. Explore some of the oldest Aboriginal rock art and bring your togs for the plunge pool at the base of Florence Falls and Katherine Hot Springs. You may feel like a rugged explorer on this outback journey but the drive itself is easy peasy.

Best Australian Road Trips

Queensland

Great Barrier Reef Drive

140km

The Great Barrier Reef Drive is a fantastic way to explore the stunning northeast coast of Australia and its remote beaches, coral reefs, rainforests and resort towns. North Beach, Rex Lookout, Port Douglas, the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation are some of the must-sees but, of course, the Great Barrier Reef is the star of the show. The road stretches a cool 140km between Cairns and Cape Tribulation—plenty of time to find Nemo.

Adventure Way

1152km

Leave the coast, and the bright lights of the city behind as you head deep into the heart of Queensland for an old-school outback adventure. As you retrace the path of the old Cobb & Co coach trips, there’s plenty of nature and history to explore. Walk amongst the towering trees in the electric green Bunya Mountains, cast your line in at St. George and reflect at the historically significant Burke and Wills Dig Tree.

South Australia

Barossa Scenic Heritage Drive

57km

This itty bitty road trip packs a punch, much like a full-bodied Shiraz (mmmm). Cruise through quaint little towns and linger at the tasting counter and in the gardens of some of Australia’s best wineries. Take in the view from Menglers Hill and pay homage to the conserve queen at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop.

The Nullabor

1700km

The Nullabor is like the Tough Mudder of road trips (but, like, for scary truckies) which really belongs under both South Australia and Western Australia. Though you wouldn’t think that much happens on this straight stretch of road (Nullabor is Latin for no trees), a quick game of eye-spy will reveal wild camels, rugged cliffs, unique vegetation and even whales! Stop by and explore the Murrawijinie Caves, the Great Australian Bight and see how many fried dim sims you can eat at roadhouses along the way. Visit the Big Kangaroo and the big Oyster too. Because ‘Straya.

Best Australian Road Trips

Tasmania

Tamar River

140km

Following the picturesque Tamar River from Launceston to Bass Strait, this road trip takes you straight through the heart of wine country—passing spectacular forests, orchards and farmland along the way. With more than 30 wineries nearby, you won’t have trouble figuring out where your next food or wine break is coming from—so Rock, Paper, Scissors that shizz and get yourself a skipper for the day. Take in the views at Mount George Lookout, link in with the North East Arts Trail, have a dip at Lagoon Bay and go penguin spotting in the evening at Low Head Coastal Reserve.

Victoria

The Silo Art Trail

200km

Forget the Big Pineapple (kidding—no hate mail please), because the Silo Art Trail lays claim to the title of world’s largest outdoor gallery. Linking Brim, Patchewollock, Sheep Hills, Rupanyup, Lascelles and Rosebery, the 200km track features spectacular large-scale mural works that have been painted onto grain silos by local artists. The artwork is breathtaking fo sho, but this journey offers so much more than an eyeful. Explore country towns between stops, grab a pint at the pub, or a pie from the servo, and meet the friendly locals.

The Great Alpine Road

308km

Slicing through mountains, vineyards, rivers, farms and valleys on its journey from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale, the Great Alpine Road offers stunning diverse landscapes for road-trippers. Expect mountain views, Aboriginal heritage and hiking galore. Reel in your dinner from a nearby stream or have it delivered to your table at a local winery, hit the trails for some mountain bike riding or simply stroll along the stunning Treetop Walk. There are plenty of camping or cottage options along the way too.

Best Australian Road Trips

Great Ocean Road, Victoria

662km

Running along one of Australia’s most stunning coastlines, a drive along the Great Ocean Road is three days of road-trip porn (ew). Stop at Great Otway National Park to spot wildlife from the Treetop Walk—or watch it fly by as you zipline your way through the treetops. Get snap-happy at the iconic Twelve Apostles, spot dolphins, top up your energy levels at the Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, grab a bevvy at the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse and finish it all up at the charming coastal town of Port Fairy.

Western Australia

Gibb River Road

660km

Running from Derby to Kununurra, straight through the heart of the Kimberley, ‘the Gibb’ takes you through rugged outback terrain that’s littered with waterfalls, swimming holes, Aboriginal history and gorgeous gorges. This remote terrain formerly required a bit of know-how on the ol’ 4WD but now the track is much more novice-friendly. Camp at the famous El Questro or the less touristy Emma Gorge or spring for a homestead like Digger’s Rest.

The Great South West Edge

2,006km

Drive from Perth to Esperance along the west coast and watch as stunning rivers, towering Karri forests, mountains, beaches and vineyards whiz past your window. Spring is a good time to see the landscape in its wildflower glory but summer is also a good time to take advantage of the turquoise waters. Start in Perth and stop by the creepy/amazing Gnomesville in Ferguson Valley, spot dolphins and whales before heading through Margaret River wine country, explore the dramatic ocean cliffs of Albany, take a treetop walk in the Valley of the Giants and do your best Ace Ventura impression amongst the fauna of Donnelly River before landing on the paper white sands of Esperance. This road trip is the tits.

“Hold On” Is Artist Jamie Preisz’s Dark And Tender Love Letter

$

The “tool of tools”, hands have always been dubbed the most difficult body part to draw, as the single most intricate form because of the sheer number of gestures and movements they are capable of.

Totally fitting then, that in his latest suite of works, Sydney based artist Jamie Priesz chooses the subject to channel the many layers of grief felt for his late sister, and honour those that reached out to him during his recovery from her passing.

Each painted hand holds mementos of the artist’s loved ones and is obscured by streams of brightly coloured paint.

“I like the random chance created by letting the paint drip however it wants across the hand,” says Jamie. “Rather than hiding elements of the hands, the paint is an enhancement. To me, it feels like Rodin’s use of drapery or Mapplethorpe’s use of props.”

These pops of runny paint let hope seep into an otherwise dark and tender love letter aptly entitled Hold On to be presented at Jerico Contemporary this week.

As I write, Jerico Tracy of Jerico Contemporary unpacks Preisz’s yet-to-be-unveiled works with the same wonder that the staff of AGNSW did prior to naming the artist winner of the Archibald Packing Prize 2018 for his portrait of Aussie music legend Jimmy Barnes.

My (title fight) renders a man most often pictured onstage with a mic offstage and preparing to fight. Like Preisz’s latest works, the painting speaks to the battles that take place backstage with mental health.

Everything To Know About The First Australian-Made Netflix Original Series

$

It’s something so many of us have been waiting for and finally, it’s coming to our screens. Netflix has just dropped the official trailer for Australia’s first series on the mega-streaming service called Tidelands.

If you live for supernatural thrillers and you’re a fan of Elsa Pataky (Fast & Furious) and Charlotte Best (Home & Away and Puberty Blues), then you’ll want to buckle up because this one is full of all the mystery.

This Gold-Coast made creeper series is centred around a group known as the Tidelanders, a small fishing community within the fictitious town, Orphelin Bay. The catch is that Tidelanders aren’t what they seem. Turns out, these guys are half-human, half-siren (in Greek mythology, these were creatures that lured sailors and fisherman).

The first season drops on December 14, so it’s safe to say that we’ve got your summer binge sessions sorted this season.

In the meantime, Snapchat just dropped its own line of mini TV shows.

4 South American Holidays So Cheap You Can Book Them Right Now

$
0
0

To say we've got the travel bug is an understatement. Our Insta feeds are littered with wanderlust, and we pretty much only save to travel. Renting is fine with us if it means we get to see the world, let's be real. But, it can be hard to travel on the same timeline as your S/O or mates—someone's always out of annual leave, and we all have that one friend who just can't save their money.

That's why we've teamed up with the small group travel experts Flight Centre to let you in on all of the untouched South American spots you need to add to your bucket list right now. With more than 30 years' experience, they understand you don’t relish the thought of sharing a bus with 60 hungover teenagers (ummm, no thanks) so they’ve partnered with Intrepid and Peregrine, which offer a bunch of itineraries that not only venture to some of the world’s most awe-inspiring locations, but are lead by locals and limited to 16 people per trip. They are also big on responsible and sustainable travel (same) along with making sure each member of their groups receives personalised firsthand travel experience to enjoy themselves while still positively contributing to the local communities they encounter.

Flight Centre are currently having a huge sale where you can score 10% off amazing Intrepid and Peregine small group journeys through Latin America. Book between 25 October and 21 November, 2018 and they'll also send you a $300 Canon voucher to put towards a new camera and/or lens - because you'll want to take alllll the photos on these trips. Now, we know you're down for that!

Patagonia

Chile

Arguably one of the most remote and visually stunning places in the world, Patagonia is at the southern most tip of South America, and is technically shared by Argentina and Chile. This place is all about the breathtaking mountains, vast ice fields and glaciers—there’s almost too much for your eyeballs to take in here (in a good way). We suggest you start with hiking glaciers, trekking through the iconic Torres del Paine National Park and taking in fresh air like you’ve never experienced before in your life. Cue digital detox.

Our Trip Pick: Patagonia Wilderness

Machu Picchu & The Inca Trail

Peru

If Machu Picchu isn’t on your hit list yet, it needs to be. And easily the best way to see this UNESCO World Heritage site is travelling with a group, and ideally, a guide too. The classic route is to start in Cusco, travel through the Sacred Valley, to the ruins of Ollantaytambo and finish with the life-changing trek to Machu Picchu. And let’s just say, it’s a bucket list item for a reason. We know you’ll all be chomping at the bit to get that winning 'Gram shot, and you definitely will, but the sacred Inca Trail is about so much more than that. Plus, watching the sun rise over Machu Picchu might just be the most magical moment of your life.

Our Trip Pick: Inca Trail Express

Galapagos Islands

Republic of Equador

Another UNESCO World Heritage site to add to your bucket list, the Galapagos Islands are a cluster of 19 volcanic islands sitting on the equator in the Pacific Ocean. They are teeming with history, incredible wildlife, and are known for their crystal clear blue waters, boasting one of the world’s richest varieties of marine life. Holding the title as a living wildlife museum, this is also where Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution and natural selection and we suggest you play explorer yourself when you head here (which you obviously will).

Our Trip Pick: Galapagos Explorer

Argentina & Brazil

If you’ve considered all of your South American options and you’re yet to find the balance between a pumping party, an overdose on breathtaking nature (we’re pretty sure that’s not actually a thing), and hourly cultural experiences, listen up.

We know we’re semi-cheating by including Argentina and Brazil together, but we just don’t think you can do one without the other. From Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, Iguazu Falls and the Amazon Rainforest, you will tick them all off while dancing the samba and drinking Malbec wine or caipirinhas (or both).

Our Trip Pick: Best of Argentina & Brazil

Two Fingers Canggu | The Verdict

$
0
0

Between its urban interior and playful Mexican-fusion menu, Two Fingers feels more like New York or Melbourne than the tropical cafes or warungs of Bali. It’s a good example of what makes the island such an impressive culinary destination. One minute you’re amongst the chaos of the streets—the lawless scooter riders, packs of street dogs and temple ceremonies that spill out into traffic—and the next you’ve stepped into a sophisticated dining experience that feels like a world away.

Recently opened on the bustling Jalan Pantai Berawa restaurant strip, Two Fingers is already a popular haunt for the cool kids of Canggu who, judging by the crowd there every night, have given the Mexican fusion joint two thumbs up.

Serving up street tacos, burritos, pinchos and outlandish fast-food-inspired plates from their 'Naughty Fingers' menu (Two Fingers? Naughty Fingers? Are they screwing with me?), the restaurant draws upon international and local flavours to produce dishes like babi guling street tacos, pulled BBQ jackfruit burritos, jalapenos poppers and loaded crispy potato tots.

Two Fingers Canggu

It was my first ‘official’ journey through the menu here. Unofficially, however, I had been there several times and already loved the place (but I wasn’t going to turn down a guided tour because I’m an opportunist like that). Such was the allure of good tacos and cocktails there that I had even been convinced to dine there on my own (“How was Two Fingers on your own?” my friend texted me that particular night, giving me a good giggle).

The tacos are the name of the game here, and for only 25k rupiah, roughly $2.30 in Australian dollars, you can try them all—from the tempura prawns and Baja fish to spiced mushroom and sweet potato. As expected, the coconut spiced babi guling (roast pork) taco was the standout for me. As a general rule, pork is always a great dish to order in Bali, but the burnt pineapple salsa and sambal mayo took this local delicacy to new heights.

Two Fingers Canggu

The spiced jackfruit—with avo, corn salsa and chilli ‘veganaise’—was another frontrunner. It will have you saying “I can’t believe this is not real meat or mayonnaise” as well as “I can’t believe this is actually delicious.” What a win for our vegan friends, who roam wild in Canggu.

Now, I’ve eaten enough tacos and burritos in my time to know that the good ones always start with a seriously decent tortilla. A crumbly, raw, floury tortilla brings actual tears of resentment to my eyes but thankfully they’ve nailed this staple at Two Fingers. They even sear it on the plancha before serving, as God intended.

If you’re keen to explore the pinchos menu, the tuna tartare tostado won’t disappoint with its killer combination of avo crema, mango salsa and chilli. Even the classic guac and chips has been elevated with house made tortilla chips and salsa fresca.

The outlandish waffle taco on the Naughty Fingers menu had me asking—why? Seriously, why? But I was able to wrap my head around the idea as I wrapped my mouth around the maple-drenched beast. Inside was a generous helping of fried chicken and melted cheese and the savoury-sweet combo was irresistible. It was emotional. Surely it was made by Lucifer himself. Conclusion: Waffle taco not a gimmick. Actually good.

Two Fingers Canggu

We finished off the meal with some churros caramello—with salted caramel, ice cream and strawberries—and some churros with Nutella. I pretended I needed extra sauce for photos, when actually it was just because I'm a greedy bastard. I suggest you do the same if you have a few calories to spare.

Speaking of getting sauced, all these delicious Mexican morsels were washed down with some of the best cocktails I’ve had in Bali (with a real alcohol hit that’s hard to come across on the island). Try the Pink Lips (riiiightt) and the restaurant's signature Dos Dedos for tequila goodness with a chilli buzz. The rest of the non-tequila concoctions are equally impressive—from the refreshing Pomegranate and Watermelon Mojito to the Dark and Stormy, made with a ridiculously good house-made ginger beer.

Two Fingers Canggu

As most Bali-bound travellers know, Australia’s favourite party island has blossomed into a sophisticated dining capital, where plenty of big-hitters are constantly upping the restaurant stakes—and newly opened Mexican restaurant Two Fingers is standing strong amongst the best of them.

It’s no surprise, really. Stay in Bali long enough and you begin to realise that most good restaurants there tend to come from good homes—and Two Fingers Bali is the sibling of the popular Nude Cafe (located right across the road), Kembali Bumbak in Umalas and the newly-opened Front Cafe in Pererenan. Pretty much my mainstays for breakfast.

The verdict? Two Fingers can’t seem to put a finger wrong—and they sure know how to hit the spot. Nothing suss.

If you really want to earn your meal, check out our Bali Hiking Bucket List while you're there.

Settle in, this week’s binge-worthy line-up is packed to the rafters with new apps, music, TV shows and podcasts. Stay tuned for the fresh drop of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (obviously the much-anticipated and more sinister remake of Sabrina The Teenage Witch), a new streaming app for true-crime podcasts, RÜFÜS DU SOL’s latest big-deal album and the Wondery podcast everyone is losing it over.

Sit back and get comfy, you’re in for a solid binge session.

TV Shows

THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA

She’s only just dropped fresh on Netflix but she’s already the 90s witchery remake we’ve been waiting for. The OG Sabrina The Teenage Witch is back but this time around things are set to be much darker and sinister. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is heading up the production (you might know him from Glee and Riverdale), and the early reviews are all thumbs up. If you’re a fan of creepy teenage supernatural melodrama, you’ll probably dig this show.

Apps

Cosmicast

Meet the beautiful new podcast streaming app all about true-crime. The whole point of Cosmicast is simplicity: it’s easy to search, filter, save libraries and switch up your theme. This slick little player is available on iOS and it’ll only cost you a couple of bucks which in the end, is absolutely worth the hundreds of hours you’ll be kicking it back and tuning in. For more epic apps, head here.

Music

RÜFÜS DU SOL: SOLACE

We don’t need to tell you how solid RÜFÜS DU SOL’s third and latest album is (no doubt, you’ve heard all the praise around it). Their highly anticipated piece of work Solace is inspired by the trio’s tour experience over the last two years, their move from Sydney to LA and basically, it’s pure sonic magic. We're shouting out their tracks Treat You Better, No Place and Underwater which will absolutely be your go-to jams this summer having already been streamed on Spotify almost 20 million times already. If you missed it, these guys have also locked in dates for their biggest Aussie tour ever.

Podcasts

Gladiator

Hype has well and truly circulated this week around the podcast Gladiator, hosted by Bob Hohler, an investigative sports reporter for the Boston Globe.  This one has been put together by podcast company Wondery (they also brought us Dr.Death) and the Globe which should set some alarms off for you. If you remember the Academy Award-winning movie Spotlight, then you should also know that Bob Hohler brought about Gladiator alongside the Spotlight Team to delve deep into how football star Aaron Hernandez went from Super Bowl star to convicted murderer in a few years.

TV SHOWS

The Haunting Of Hill House

Netflix’s brand new horror series The Haunting Of Hill House has been big on every serious binge-watcher’s radar this week. There’s been questions around the ‘bent neck’ lady, the Red Room and whether or not you’ll actually pass out while watching it (we answer those questions here). Regardless, this is one to get on board especially because Stephen King has literally hailed it as “a work of genius”. You’ve got nothing to lose really.

BOOKS

Clementine Ford: Boys Will Be Boys

This time around, Clementine Ford is forging the way to inform about a different type of feminism ie. how do you raise your son to be a feminist? You’ve probably heard the term ‘toxic masculinity’ been rolled around a bit (and if you’ve read any of Tim Winton’s works, you’ll already be well across the issue at hand) and in true Ford style, this one is unapologetic in every possible way. Confronting, enlightening and inspiring are just some of the words readers have tossed its way. Check it out here.

Hip hip hooray! It's #BoysWillBeBoys publication day! Looking forward to being at the Athaneum tonight in Melbourne to talk with the legendary @Jan__Fran pic.twitter.com/TX0MDaGoGG

PODCASTS

Serial

Serial season three is here and get ready to mix things up from their trademark self-contained investigative stories co-produced by Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder (who also brought us S-Town). The next stretch of audio-magic brings Cleveland’s criminal justice system to the forefront, and shines a light on a number of different cases. What makes this next phase of Serial super exciting is the ridiculous amount of access the producers were granted; recordings from courtrooms, judges’ chambers and attorney offices. The team spent an entire year inside the criminal courts in Cleveland so you better believe you’ll get to hear everything that really happens on the inside.

APPS

Florence

For those that like to tap into your best-relaxed self (who doesn’t?), Florence is an interactive novel from Melbourne-based designers, that’s filled with pleasant everyday experiences and even, all the feels that come with falling in love. From the lead designer of Monument Valley, if you’re a fan of comics, you’re probably going to become very addicted. The winner of an Apple Design Award at the Worldwide Developer Conference, you’ll be swiping your way to more relaxed vibes in no time. For more on this one, head here.

MUSIC

Sticky Fingers: Cool And Calm

Not necessarily a binge, however you will absolutely have this one on repeat (and when it comes to music that’s essentially the same thing). Sticky Fingers just dropped their latest, cruisey tune, ‘Cool And Calm’ and that’s exactly how you’ll feel when you play this one. Alongside this win, these Aussie guys have shot an 8mm music video flaring up all the vintage vibes and as always, it’s pure greatness. Is this a sneaky drop from an album in the pipeline? If so, you heard it here first.

This West Coast City Is Australia’s Best Kept Secret

$
0
0

Did you know that Sydney isn’t the coolest city in the country? We’ve been keeping quiet over here in the west, but now we’re letting the cat out of the bag—Perth is the actual best (especially in summer) and we’re ready to share it with you.

Home to the third largest fringe festival in the world, some of the best beaches on the planet and a delicious and ever-evolving food and drink scene, the world’s most isolated city is without a doubt Australia’s best kept secret.

So what are you waiting for? Come join us where the sun shines!

Beach

5 Must-Dos

#1 Beach

You’ve probably heard about Perth’s beaches, and that’s for a good reason, they’re quite likely the best in Australia (if not the world). Cottesloe and Scarborough are probably the most well known, but if you want to experience the local faves, here are 10 of the best secret beaches to enjoy while you’re here.

#2 City

Perth CBD might be small, but it sure is mighty! Take a stroll through Elizabeth Quay with a gelato from Gusto—we’d go as far to say this stuff is even better than Messina—in hand before making your way up Barrack Street, passing the Bell Tower and State Buildings on your way. Explore the Hay and Murray Street malls, resting your legs with a flick in the cool confines of the newly opened Palace Cinemas at Raine Square. Once the credits are rolling get out and enjoy the sunshine at Yagan Square (checking out the Market Hall along the way) before finishing up at Market Grounds for a drink. If you’re into your street art, here’s something we prepared earlier

#3 Rottnest Island

You haven’t been to WA without snapping a selfie with a Quokka and the only place to do that is Rottnest Island. The Rottnest Express will get you to the island in as little as 25 minutes (departing from Fremantle) and there is P-L-E-N-T-Y to explore while you’re there. Accommodation at Rotto books out pretty far in advance, but you can see most of the sights in a day trip. Hire a bike and cycle the island, taking in the most Insta-worthy spots along the way.

#4 Festivals

January, February and March are the most happening months in P-town thanks to the incredible Fringe World Festival and Perth Festival. It’s also the best time to visit if you love 30-plus degree days. Perth Festival has been running for 65 years and each year gets bigger and better, while Fringe World is the third largest fringe festival in the world—both will have you questioning why you’ve never visited Perth before.

#5 Kings Park

One of the largest city parks in the world, it may surprise visitors that Kings Park is bigger than New York’s Central Park (and boasts even better views in our humble opinion). There’s no shortage of walks, picnic areas and gorgeous views to enjoy. Here’s a comprehensive guide.

Where To Stay

The Alex Hotel

Perched above William Street in Northbridge (aka the gritty, cool side to the city), The Alex boasts a rooftop garden, honesty bar, trendy rooms and some of the best breakfast muffins we’ve had the pleasure of devouring. Downstairs and around the corner Shadow Wine Bar has you covered for cocktail hour and you don’t have to stumble too far to find some of Perth’s best eats this side of Yagan Square.

COMO The Treasury

If you’ve got cash to splash COMO The Treasury in the CBD is the place to do it. Not only is the precinct home to some incredible restaurants (hello Wildflower, Petition, Post and Long Chim), the hotel packs a spa, gym, pool, library and suite of lavish rooms into one of Perth’s most beautiful historic buildings.

QT Perth

Another CBD gem, QT Perth’s rooms are so comfy you won’t want to leave. But you definitely should because the goodies of Hibernian Place, Elizabeth Quay and the stunning Swan River are too good to miss. Be sure to nab a room with a free standing tub so you can soak away the aches and pains from gallivanting around the city all day.

Hougoumont Hotel

No trip to Perth is complete without stopping by Fremantle, and when you’re there the Hougoumont is where you want to rest your head. The boutique hotel is a stone’s throw from the famed Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle Markets and all of the amazing restaurants and bars the port city is known for.

The Westin

Close to three of our favourite Perth restaurants (we’re looking at you Garum, Hadiqa and Arthur & Co), some of the best coffee in town (ahem, Offshoot) and in the same dang building as one of Perth’s most relaxing day spas, it would be rude not to book yourself into The Westin in the CBD.

Tradewinds

River views? Check! In room bar cart? Check! King-sized bed? Check! Tradewinds in East Fremantle has everything discerning holiday-goers could ever desire. Whip up an espresso martini in your room before heading down to the pool deck and enjoying unique views of the Swan.

Coffee

But First, Coffee

Eillo

Fuelling our daily coffee addiction (for real), it’s pretty much impossible to visit Eillo and not walk out with something from their adorable homewares collection. Plus, Eillo’s coffees are some of the cheapest and most delicious in Perth - if you could pack them in your suitcase, you would.

Someday Coffee Co

It’s worth the trip out to the ‘burbs for the smooth coffee they’re serving at Someday Coffee Co. If you’re lucky to nab a table, order some pimped up toast or Mexican beans as you wait for the caffeine to kick in. While you’re in the area check out Bold Park for views of the city and sea, before making your way down to City Beach for a dip.

Mary Street Bakery

You’re never too far from a Mary Street Bakery if you’re hanging around the CBD, with two locations in the city, one in West Leederville and one in Highgate. We’ve got a soft spot for the Highgate bakery, being the very first location, but they all serve their highly regarded coffee and scrumptious doughnuts just the same.

Gesha Coffee Co

Often jam packed with coffee addicts, Fremantle’s Gesha Coffee Co roasts their own beans and serves a whole lot of delish eats. Definitely the best way to start your day in Freo.

Coffee addict? Us too! Here’s where to find some more of our fave brews in town.

foodie

Your Foodie Hit-List

Hadiqa

Nestled above Hibernian Place in the CBDs East End, Hadiqa’s Middle Eastern inspired menu (and Instagramable interior) is not to be missed. Kick off with a Turkish Delight Martini and opt for the Diffa—AKA the “mother of all feasts”—to ensure you’re eating the best of the best dishes.

Wildflower

With a menu celebrating the six Noongar seasons, Wildflower sits atop COMO The Treasury with views over the Swan River. The five-course tasting menu makes for the ultimate degustation experience when paired with sommelier matched wines. Expect plenty of native ingredients like baby pigface (an edible succulent), abalone, rosella, saltbush and Geraldton wax.

Mack Daddy’s New York Slice

If you’re looking for a quick (but filling) bite to eat, Mack Daddy’s New York Slice is the place to go. Their 22-inch pizzas are sold by the slice and in the round and every last bite is heaven. Once your food baby is happy, walk it off along Beaufort Street and check out the Mount Lawley sights.

Bib & Tucker

Self-proclaimed foodie and Olympic swimming champion Eamon Sullivan is the brains behind this North Fremantle beachside wonder, which has gained legendary status in Perth for its incredible food and gorgeous beach views. Grab a table outside, watch one of the best sunsets of your life over the Indian Ocean and start plotting a move to Perth (previous sunrises over the ocean have got nothing on this!)

Stable Hands

Housed in one of Fremantle’s oldest buildings, Stable Hands serves contemporary Mediterranean fare that your taste buds won’t forget. The beetroot tarte tatin and carrot pot de crème cacao are must tries. You can’t pass up a post-dinner coffee either, it’s next level.

Bivouac Canteen & Bar

Firmly entrenched in the hip William Street gang, the uber-cool Bivouac serves up delicious Mediterranean-style fare that is perfect for sharing and always hits the spot. Open from lunch until late every day from Tuesday through Saturday, this Northbridge restaurant also doubles as a gallery showcasing the work of local artists on the walls.

Still hungry? We’ll give you the hot tip on the best eats here.

What Comes Alive After Five

Rooftop At QT

Make yourself one with the Perth city skyline at Rooftop At QT. The industrial chic bar serves amazing cocktails, refreshing spritzes, loads of WA wines and beers as well as just about any variety of gin you desire, plus rum, whiskey and tequila. Open until late every night of the week, definitely stop by to watch the sunset.

The Standard

We haven’t yet found a box that The Standard in Northbridge doesn’t tick. It’s a bar, with a rooftop and an incredible food and drink offering running the gauntlet from bar snacks to more substantial fare. There’s also a gorgeous wine garden out the back which makes for the perfect spot to bask in the west coast sunshine, vino in hand.

Strange Company

A fave with the locals, Strange Company serves wine on tap that keeps us all coming back. The small Fremantle bar also has a pretty hefty bar menu. We recommend kicking things off with a local drop and all of the meats and cheese.

Varnish On King

An absolute jewel of King Street, Varnish on King has successfully transplanted an American Whiskey bar into Perth’s CBD. Descend into this chic basement bar to get your hands on an epic selection of bourbon and whiskey as well as some drool-worthy food. Their whiskey and bacon flights are legendary.

Wines Of While

Perth’s first natural wine bar and shop, Wines of While is lodged in a quiet spot at the north end of William Street in Northbridge. Offering up takeaway and dine in prices on an impressive selection of natural wines from all over the world, this is one wine bar where you can enjoy first class wine without the pretention—the fit-out is casual, the staff welcoming, and the vibe distinctly communal.

Ready for another round? Here’s where to find some of our favourite cocktails.

Shop

Shop

Arrival Hall

Tucked away in an old warehouse in leafy East Perth, it’s a little too easy to spend your money at Arrival Hall. Inspired by a passion for travel and the excitement of uncovering beautiful design, Arrival Hall has one of the most expertly curated selections of furniture, gifts and homewares we’ve had the pleasure of perusing in Perth, and just about anywhere to be honest.

FOUND

Home to the biggest collection of WA-made goods by local artists and makers, the shelves at FOUND are bursting with beautiful ceramics, woodwork, jewellery, books, fashion, prints, textiles and gifts, with each being incredible artworks in their own form. Tucked into the Fremantle Arts Centre, this place will have you soaking up the glorious Freo atmosphere as you shop.

Periscope

The very gorgeous Periscope boutique in Northbridge is an independently owned boutique, housing local and international designer labels, including clothing, accessories, shoes, and bags. Home to one of our fave local labels, Hickey Hardware, we hope you left some room in your suitcase!

Sue Lewis Chocolatier

Sue Lewis has achieved legendary status with Perth locals so a visit to her glorious chocolate shop in the State Buildings is a must while you’re on the west side. Her delectable, handmade chocolates are almost too beautiful to eat…almost.

Fremantle Markets

Established in 1987, the Fremantle Markets are open from Friday to Sunday each week and are equally loved by locals and tourists alike. Stock up on some of the best local produce, peruse the beautiful handmade gifts and homewares, grab a gooey cookie from Get Chunky and enjoy the show that the buskers put on.

More money to spend? Check out some of Perth’s best homewares shops.

Tack On A Road Trip

Premier Mill Hotel, Katanning

The Premier Mill Hotel’s backstory is equally as impressive as its beautiful confines, and it’s really put Katanning on the map for those looking for a whole lot of luxury. A three-hour drive through the countryside, Katanning makes for a great hub to start exploring the great southern region of WA. Albany and Denmark are a two and a bit hour drive away and Bremer Bay is just a little bit further. The incredible Stirling Ranges and PUBLIC Silo Trail are a must if you’re in this neck of the woods.

South West Region

The south west region (AKA Down South to the locals) is an absolute must if you’ve got a few days up your sleeve. There’s no shortage of wineries and breweries to enjoy, beaches to check out, caffeine haunts to visit and caves to explore. Find some lodging in Dunsborough, Margaret River or Augusta and enjoy the many spoils of the region (read: wine and cheese).

Or, check out some other great under the radar getaways.

Three’s A Trend | Neon Hair

$

0

The home of progressive skincare products and the addictive sounds of K-Pop, Korea is leading the way when it comes to the latest hair trends. While the runways at the S/S19 Hera Seoul Fashion Week were hot with edgy designs, it was the city’s influencers and their bold street style that caught our attention.

Between the BESFXXK, Heta and EENK shows, Korea’s style setters were rocking individualistic twists on the city’s iconic street style paired with statement, in-your-face, no denying it came from a box, hair colour.

While it's not the first time we’ve seen the bright hair trend, Seoul Fashion Week has really dialled up the saturation.

There’s no doubt that this summer is all about statement Skittle-coloured hair. From neon brights to worn-in fades, we’ve found the products to take your hair from balayage to in-your-face-bold.

All-Over Pastel

seoul fashion week

If you want to add some candy-coloured fun to your style, try a foolproof DIY colour with Lime Crime’s (1) vegan and cruelty-free semi-permanent Unicorn hair tint. Go full Seoul street-style and rock your pastel locks plaited into sweet braids; pop in a couple of ready-braided pastel human hair extensions from Glam Seamless (2) for the easiest way to incorporate texture in your watercolour locks. If you want to dip your toes into the pastel pond before committing to a semi-permanent colour, try IGK’s Sutro Ombre Color (3). Spray for buildable lilac hues that wash out in the shower.

Grown-Out Electric

seoul fashion week

Get that lived-in electric fade by liberally applying AMR’s ammonia and peroxide-free Adore Semi-Permanent hair colour (1) in Sunrise with a brush and then comb through your ends. A trip to the salon beforehand to bleach the roots will give a more vibrant contrast when you colour, and a brighter fade down the track. For an instant fade, lightly apply some Vaseline or a thick conditioner to the roots before the colour, or use L’Oreal Paris’ Colourista Washout (2) followed by a couple of shampoos. Add movement and volume to your style by spritzing R+Co’s Dallas Thickening Spray (3) generously all over before blow drying. For additional texture, run a curling wand through sporadic sections of your hair, before adding a dab of Drybar’s Whiskey Fix Styling Paste to your hands and using your fingertips to work through your waves.

Highlighter Ends

seoul fashion week

To truly live your best neon life, you need to start with a properly prepped base; we recommend going to a professional stylist to have your hair lightened (and properly treated) ready for intense colour. If you’re blonde or have lightened your hair already, clean up your base colour with Fudge Professional’s Paint Box Whiter Shade of Pale (1), which neutralises any brassy tones for a crisp result once you apply your colour. For unmistakeably 'out there' hair, Arctic Fox’s Semi-Permanent Hair Colour in Neon Moon (2) with a touch of Phantom Green (3) will do the trick, plus it’s vegan and cruelty-free. Keep your colour looking fresh by using the Rita Hazan True Color Ultimate Shine Gloss in Clear between shampooing and conditioning in the shower. With such heavy duty colour action going on, treat yourself to a hair oil like the Abhati Suisse Chambal Sacred Hair Oil to prevent dryness, breakages and split ends. For epic fluro colours without the commitment, you can’t go past Manic Panic’s vegan Amplified Colour Sprays, which are also cruelty-free with no nasties in sight. Get the true highlighter yellow by mixing the Electric Banana and Electric Lizard; it’ll wash out in the shower, but we’re certain it’ll be fun while it lasts.

Want more trends? What about pumpkin spice scented beauty?

Off the back of his new album Rainbow Valley (to be released Friday 2 November), our indie-boy Matt Corby has gone and announced a massive tour of Australia next year. And when we say massive, we mean downright, unbelievably mammoth.

We’re talking 12 shows across a bunch of metro and regional areas like Cairns, Townsville, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Melbourne and obviously a whole heap more next March and April.

The Aria Award-winning legend has already shared some tracks from his upcoming album including No Ordinary Life (the dreamy tune inspired by Willy Wonka), All Fired Up and All That I See which can only mean that his Rainbow Valley will no doubt be a hectic show of magic melodies.

Sydney is the ultimate goldmine for all Thai eats. Sure, Thai is a failsafe comfort food choice, but surprise, surprise, it’s not only an amazing choice for your hangover feed, it’s also 100% delicious—and slightly addictive. For all your egg nets, fried chicken, crispy pork, glass noodles, betel leaves and spices, here’s where to grab the best Thai food in Sydney.

Chubby Cheeks

Paddington

Chubby Cheeks is the latest Thai joint to hit Oxford Street and it does not disappoint. Huge shout out to the crackling pork belly bao loaded with pickled veggies and sriracha kewpie, it's the type of dish you would hit up on the reg. And do they serve up on of the best black sticky rice puddings around Sydney? Yeah, we'd back that.

Chat Thai

Haymarket

This will be one of the best Thai feeds of your life, hands down. If you’re on the lookout for freshly grilled fish cakes, king prawns (with garlic relish), juicy pork skewers and the best coconut ice-cream (ever), well, you’ve found your next eatery.

Muum Maam

Surry Hills

Muum Maam (Thai slang for “little glutton”) is a street style tuck shop you can’t afford to miss. Let’s be honest; a two-day food coma is inevitable after you visit this gem. You’ll get the best Thai flavours in their selection of curries and noodles and everyone is always talking about their pad thai with chicken, dried shrimp, peanuts and tofu. Yep, pop this one on your hit list.

Yok Yor

Haymarket

This epic food factory is pumping out Thai feeds like nothing else. Yok Yor covers all the staples you crave weekly, along with epic flavour concoctions for when you’re feeling a little adventurous (pretty much all the time). And yes, the som tum with green papaya salad and salted egg is life changing.

Let’s Eat Thai

Marrickville

Hit these guys up for some pretty little Thai dishes that you’ll want to treat your tastebuds to STAT. Let’s plates up nothing less than tasty AF, and we mean this because we literally (and no doubt you could too) eat everything on their menu. Snatch up some of their crackling pork belly and do not, we repeat, do not miss out on their green curry.

Alphabet Street

Cronulla

Everybody knows the ultimate partner to Thai cuisine is… a cocktail. Look it up, it’s a fact. These guys have a crazy starter menu that you could basically live off, with tasty eats like betal leaf with smoked trout, and chicken wings with chilli dipping sauce. And yes, they have all the curries and seafood dishes too but um…the cocktails. The cocktails are to die for.

Long Chim

CBD

We hereby give you the ultimate take on modern Thai, and guys, Long Chim does modern Thai really, really, reaaaaaally well. Headed by David Thompson (the legend who gave the world the internationally-acclaimed Nahm in Bangkok), this hub is churning out soft shell crab stir-fry, hot and sour soup and a steamed barramundi curry on the regular.

Home Thai

CBD

This one’s super popular and why? Well, because there’s no such thing as a bad dish at Home Thai (we’re not even joking). Just a warning, most Sydney-siders get seriously obsessed with this place, so you can expect to be coming back again the next night. From the dumplings, to duck larb topped with deep fried duck, you’re going to have an awesome time here.

Maenam Lao & Thai

Strathfield

Because people who love Thai don’t just go to Maenam Lao & Thai once in their life; they go every week. Yep, whether you like it or not, you’re going to become a regular here just like everybody else. This one’s for when you want a damn good pad Thai or pad see ew. Trust us, its comfort food on a whole other level.

Green Peppercorn

Fairfield

When you want to eat all the Laos food, this is where you head. Cue an awesome drink menu, super tasty dishes and a killer interior. We’d say that’s the perfect set-up to enjoy fried ice cream and pandan waffles.

Chum Tang

Chatswood

Grab your quick Thai feed from Chum Tang, and guys, the dishes here are seriously off the charts! Known as the “station within a station” and planted right in the middle of The District, you’ll find delicious bundles of rice and noodles, plus one of the best-grilled wagyu striploin, roasted rice and roasted chilli dish you’ll ever have.

Boon Cafe At Jernai Thai

Haymarket

All hail Boon Cafe. Here you’ll find a glorious mash-up of Thai classics and some inventive musings on staples with artisanal ingredients from local producers, along with a few daily specials. The team here is serving up Thai twists on avocado on toast, big breakfasts with bacon and skewered pork, and matcha frappes (only one hundred times better than every skim latte ever). And we highly, we mean HIGHLY suggest you check out their sandwiches because we’re already drooling just thinking about them.

Khao Pla

Chatswood

We’re huge fans of Khao Pla and it’s not hard to see why when you take a peek at their awesome menu. Standouts include their Issan steak tartare with chilli flake and lime juice, the kingfish sashimi with prawn floss and red chilli mayo, and of course, the dessert menu goes off with caramelised puffed rice, coconut sticky rice, roasted chilli and spiced anchovy with smoked coconut sorbet.

Spice I Am

Various locations

No doubt you’ve heard of Spice I Am (we really hope you have because this one has won a heap of awards). Let’s be real, this is as close as you’re going to get to Bangkok eats without physically flying to Bangkok yourself. You’re in for a Thai feast like no other, so we suggest you bring your rat pack to help you finish off the eats here (and you’ll want to try as much as you can!).

Tum Zaap

Randwick

If you’re on the hunt for straight up, no-fuss Thai food, we give you—Tum Zaap. This one is a local institution and for a good reason too. We all love a good Thai feed, but not all of us are fans of the spice; but fear not hungry friends for you can easily choose your hot or not so hot level here. With everything from your fried goods, to curries, grilled meats, noodles and satays, you’re guaranteed to get a solid Thai fix from here.

Sugarcane

Coogee

With a Southeast Asian focus on its dishes, Sugarcane is plating up zesty and fresh dishes that we can’t get enough of (goodbye summer bod). We’re all for their delicious fish curry sauce, their deep fried crispy chicken, their silken tofu and their coconut-doused cob of corn. Yep, we’re fans. Can you tell?

Longrain

Surry Hills

Long live Longrain. This Southeast Asian hub has serious street food credentials. The eats here play with the basics of hot, sour, salty & sweet so basically, every dish is a major hit for your tastebuds. The menu is designed to share and you’ll want to hit up the filled eggnet (it not only looks amazing but tastes amazing too) packed with pork, prawns, peanuts and cucumber relish.
